I have a question regarding the addition of vehicles in War Thunder. I’ve noticed that there are numerous low-tier vehicles that many nations could potentially receive. These vehicles, while slightly different from those already added, could provide a richer and more varied experience for players. For example, some vehicles might only differ by having a better engine or an additional gun, which are relatively minor adjustments that could be implemented without extensive rework.
Given that these models are relatively easy to create due to their minor differences from existing vehicles, I’m curious as to why we haven’t seen more of these variations added to the game. While I understand that having multiple versions of the same vehicle with only slight alterations might not significantly impact gameplay, especially if the battle rating remains unchanged, I believe that such additions would still be appreciated by the player base. They would enhance the diversity and historical accuracy of the tech-trees, offering more options and incentives for players to explore different vehicles and configurations.
Adding these slightly altered vehicles would be particularly beneficial for minor nations. Not every nation has been consistently developing military machinery throughout WWII, the Cold War, and the modern era. By incorporating these vehicles, minor nations would be better represented in the eras during which they did the most development. This would significantly boost their performance and provide a more balanced and inclusive gameplay experience.
Could someone provide some insight into why Gaijin has chosen not to implement these slightly altered vehicle models (especially lower tier machinery)? It seems that this decision results in minor nations receiving only one or two new vehicles per update, despite having several slightly different models that could be included. Understanding the reason behind this would be helpful, as it might explain the development priorities that Gaijin has.

Desired Number of Vehicles per Update How many new vehicles would you like to see added per update for each nation?
They could also make them as side modification that player can equip or unequip like bf-109 20mm or 30mm, yak 9 23mm, 37mm, 45mm,… But this would probly required dynamic br to be added first.
It’s a good idea, so long as it doesn’t make the grind worse (i.e, make sure they are foldered where appropriate)
But there are a load of aircraft variants I’d love to see for example an actual bomber variant of the mosquito or another Hawker Hunter. You also have things like the RAF F-86 Sabres. All 3 would be fairly easy additions.
You also have some variants that could be “upgrades” for existing vehicles. like adding the Tornado Gr1B variant as a modification for the Tornado Gr1 (just adds ASMs)
What exactly do you mean by slightly altered vehicles? Could you give a couple examples?
Because I interpret this two different ways. One is foreign vehicles in service with the minor nation, what is generally referred to as “copy paste”. Often with minor differences from domestic versions of the vehicle, with little to no effect on the game, if it is modelled at all. Like the T-55L having Polish radios, or the 2S1T having a new digital FCS. These I am 1000% in support of- I believe that War Thunder at its core is and should be a historical game with an emphasis on the mass-service vehicles of the nations it represents.
The other option of “slightly modified vehicles” is one-off prototypes and field conversions out of necessity. For example, a Sherman with a 75mm M1906 or a Chaffee with extra machine guns. I’m generally opposed to these vehicles, at least as tech tree, because having a half-dozen examples of a single vehicle running around, while not being able to even use the one that was in service in the thousands, just breaks any hope of immersion.
I love this idea and would love to see it in the game, but there must be some specifications for the tanks.
If they add tanks like the Chaffe with more machine guns, the tank should be folded in with the existing Chaffe, this way you can research the Chaffe and move on to other tanks. Later, if you want a different experience, you can go down through the folder and get the different variants.
On the other hand, if a tank is different enough from the original tank, it shouldn’t be folded in with the previous tank. It should be given its slot as the feel or performance of the tank is different enough to be considered something new and given its place in the tech tree.
It would also be interesting to see how they take into account different variants from different countries. If the Italians modified their Sherman to have a better gun does a country that might have captured those Sherman also get that upgrade, or does only the country that modified get the tank?
Gaijin definitely should do updates focussed on earlier eras/generations. I get that modern stuff earns them more money, but the there are plenty of people that like playing older vehicles just as much or even prefer them over the modern ones.
Updates always are either focussed on introducing newer tech or adding subtrees (that somehow always end up lacking domestic and unique vehicles used by the subnation). I think it’s time they take a break from the modern era focus and start fleshing out the smaller nations trees and introduce some of the long awaited missing vehicles and unusual vehicle variants.
I really like this idea, especially if its foldered, altough I wont mind having the extra grind but if the vehicles are only slight deviations it would make sense to have the vehicle be foldered.
I think it would be also neat for nations who were in WWI to have their WWI vehicles and be at br 1.0 like in the french tree. And making it a optional grind for players who like to collect and spade vehicles.
But the biggest reason i like this is it allows players to have better and more br focused lineups, and many minor nations with br gaps can benefit from this (japan, israel). It allows players to have more vehicles to spawn and because their similar, players would already know how to play the vehicles.
