many radar guided air to air missiles (amraam’s, pl12’s, r77’s) can shoot other missiles down. its not impossible, but its success rate is way too high. any 12 arh carriers (f15, 30sm’s and 10 j15t/j16)'s can just fire at an incoming front aspect and sometimes even off angles and not have to worry about it. because even if their missiles miss, they can just fire another that also has a high success rate.
the only exception is the mica em, as it was specifically designed for shooting missiles down, 112kg’s and has the seeker to track missiles accurately with a high speed gate (as the mica in mica em stands for “missile d’interception”, de combat et d’auto defense). one of the reasons it has small range is because of this.
the aim-120, r77, pl12, however, are not capable of doing this. it’s not completely outright impossible, but its chances of doing it are really, REALLY low. it should be adjusted. i’m not sure of this so correct me if i’m wrong, but i think air to air missiles gets above its speed gate entirely (incoming missile’s and the amraam’s combined speed too fast for it to consider it a target) meaning it shouldn’t be able to see it at all if the target isn’t above it. mica em has a higher speed gate.
it’s really annoying, it allows no skill whatsoever to fly straight, shoot missiles coming at you and dump your own until you die, which is what newer players that got to top tier with premiums do.
