I’m getting tired of every tank looking excessively worn out/neglected.
Right now, almost every vehicle looks like it’s been fighting for years. On some tanks it’s so extreme that parts of the camouflage are barely visible anymore. It defeats the purpose of camouflage if it’s constantly covered by excessive wear.
Tanks are usually washed and camouflages are repainted during downtime between deployments, because exposed metal will rust and vehicles are generally maintained rather than left to deteriorate. So when we see rust, heavy wear, and constant grime in War Thunder, it visualises neglect of the vehicle.
The “Camouflage Condition” slider also isn’t a great solution since it effectively favors premium players by locking something that shouldn’t be a feature behind a paywall. (I play with premium so i know how much of a difference it is with vs without.)
And before someone says, “tanks shouldn’t be factory fresh it ruins immersion” Tanks already get dirty as you play a battle. Starting every match with a heavily worn vehicle just makes already hard-to-see camouflage even less visible, and it also makes forest or urban camos harder to distinguish. Even decals placed on the hull can become almost invisible under two simulated dirt layers.
I’d really like to see the default wear toned down greatly or removed, with battlefield dirt and damage in-battle being what actually makes vehicles look used. That way, players who want a worn-out look can actually earn that feeling through gameplay instead of starting with it from scratch in the hangar.
Also, the tanks shown in the Tech-Tree info display when hovering over them look mostly clean anyway, so it’s clearly something they can scale back or adjust if they wanted to.
Funny thing is they seem to be going back on this decision in recent updates. Since new tanks and old ones getting a re-skin is way cleaner than the other tanks.
