If you could, how would you re-balance CAS in Ground Battles?

Would change nothing in this regard.

CAS would still be artificially nerfed because of the combined arms mode

Not really as only people wanting combined aspect would be playing it

Yeah, and then Gaijin will see nobody wants combined arms and they will remove Ground Only because the CAS losers will whine.

Another way of reducing the number of aircraft in a tank battle is to only award kills and battle points when they land safely back at their airfield. Just think no kamikazes in a game…that’s about 95% removed from Realistic/Arcade combined game due to lack of talent. However, Simulator mode combined battles, total respect for those players. Taking off with a realistic loadout, nothing like those that AIR spawn with a bombload that would require a runway 10km long to takeoff if at all possible and cockpit view only that IS EFFECTED by rain and snow, unlike the virtual view when playing Realistic/Arcade. Would also like some ground smoke (burning tanks and explosiona) during the game to make locating vehicles more realistic. Try hiding from aircraft in a desert scenario with virtual view…totally impossible. Again, just stating things as they are.

The other way of looking at it is that the aircraft was already airbourne after taking off from an appropriate runway and flew into the target area to provide the necessary air support.

Few aircraft would actually operate from a FOB that close to the engagement area, only really the Harriers come to mind actually.

both of yall doing what im criticising is peak WT forum moment

and Japan is still lacking most domestic A2G weaponry, but yes lets add the Penguin Anti-ship missile that has zero proof for being able to track Tanks / Moving targets!!

I imagine it won’t really ever be a thing. As much as War Thunder loves to deviate from Realism sometimes, something as fundamental as a game mode probably would never change. The fact that there are literal aircraft dedicated to destroying ground vehicles and that almost every IRL battle involving tanks likely involved Helicopters OR Aircraft means that they won’t really stick to it. As for a reason why it shouldn’t exist: Having two practically identical game modes is kinda pointless, along with the fact that it’d allow Gaijin to become lazy- instead of balancing and fixing CAS, just make a new mode and ignore it! Don’t like overpowered CAS? Go to the Tank-only mode!
Oh but you like CAS, just not when its overpowered? Psh, you got a mode w/o it right there!

Most CAS threads are definitely ruined by both honestly. Most of the time I end up seeing “Make tank-only mode!!” or “SPAA easier than CAS!!”

Also this is exactly what I’m criticising. One side sees the other as ruining the thread, and the other side sees it the opposite way. I don’t know how you can both reply to my criticism, agreeing, but then doing exactly what I criticise.

Play a simulator combined battle with the same bombload and see if you can take off without ending up as a wreck at the end of the runway. May I suggest an F6F…good luck with that.

How does this mean that CAS is underpowered though?

Not really, im just mentioning that the other side (CAS players) has no argument to present, which is why the only thing ever posted by it amounted to “cope and seethe ground player”. There is not one argument for why tank only shouldnt exist, or at least CAS being nerfed

Current GRB and a tank-only mode are completely different modes. The exact same way that ARB abd GRB arent identical.

My main gamemode is air SIM and I am well versed with playing mud movers, though I rarely play props these days.

Personally, I find taking off in GSB easier than in ASB as you do not require as much fuel and (at least at higher BRs) the payload you would normally run is actually lighter.

I do not really have much opinion on forced AF spawn for aircraft for I can readily form well reasoned arguments both for and against it. I also believe that either way, they need to add additional aircraft spawn points (which probably should be further away, at a higher altitude and you should spawn faster for the air spawn) as spawn killing is a major potential issue.

There should always be exceptions though such as heavy and maybe even medium bombers for they would struggle to gain the necessary altitude for them to be even slightly usable.

That having been said. My personal opinion on aircraft getting air spawn could be interpreted as the aircraft simply entering the air space after taking off from a larger airfield or carrier located else where and taking the time needed to climb to their current altitude and location, if you want a “lore” reason for it.

Does the tornado Gr4 have it’s 18x FnF Brimstones 1s?

Does the Typhoon have a single FnF weapon or even it’s IRL Brimstone variant? (Especially when compared with aircraft like the Su30 and Rafale with their respective weapons)

i cannot think of a single mud movers in the British TT at the very least, that does not have some major limitation that exists almost exclusively as a nerf within GRB

As a result many of these aircraft are underperforming compared to real life by quite a bit and as someone who uses them in both gamemodes, it’s frustrating having these artificial nerfs within the air modes

Functionally they’d be identical. Same map pool, same mission types, same objectives, practically identical maps (minus helipads + runways). The only difference would be no aircraft, possibly no UCAV and no helicopters. Whereas Air maps are substantially less detailed, larger and have different locations (with exceptions). There are many differences between ARB and GRB, and practically none between the proposed Combined-Arms and Tank-only battles.

One of the most liked replies to OP has 87 likes, and begins with “I like CAS in GRB.” So, clearly there are arguments from people who like CAS (like myself) who want to see nerfs. This mentality that “all CAS players have no argument”, or “CAS player cant be bothered to understand 5 words of text” (in your own words) is exactly what I’m criticising. Most of the proposed solutions (besides Tank-Only) are literally by people who play CAS. The best solutions I’ve seen are all by @Morvran, who has been the most active and consistent person on the forums regarding CAS. Have a productive conversation with someone instead. If someone is antagonizing, trolling or being unproductive- flag them and move on. Talk with someone else, instead of having a constant back and forth that just consists of “No, your bad!” “Heh, you can’t read.”

Would be fun to see that.
I’d say people would try to get enough SP for their brokenly OP plane as soon as possible. If they fail they’d just quit and try again.

A game of GRB would just turn into ARB like few minutes into the match, and all those broken CAS wouldn’t have anyone to bully on the ground.

@gangsterism

Having a quick re-read through some of the past few messages, I believe perhaps some wires have gotten crossed. So let me try and explain the full picture from my point of view.

I am mainly an air player, but I do play both ground and naval, and I will admit, out of those 2, I play ground the least.

With that perspective in mind, I am constantly annoyed by the fact that aircraft quite often have major restrictions or outright nerfs because “they would be too strong in GRB”.

This is constant and annoying. The most recent example of this for me is the tornado Gr4 and the Brimstone. I was looking forward to this aircraft for it’s mud moving ability within ASB, specifically using Brimstones to destroy the convoys found within that gamemode.

But alas, we do not have that capability and in fact, the brimstone is so weak, it’s pointless to even equip it most of them time. This is my main complaint at the moment with wise to CAS within GRB.

Additionally when looked at within the context of GRB, aircraft such as the tornado Gr4 are hardly worth playing due to both their BR and what they face, it does not actually stand any meaningful chance against SPAA such as the Pantsir let alone the powerful cap is always faces. So within that context too, it is underperforming greatly.

I do not think aircraft should be uncontested you can read my full opinions on changes they should implement above (first comment) and whilst it does need updating and I intend to after the next major update. I will say this. Aircraft performance should not be limited, there should be no reason why I could not spawn into (to continue using the same example) the tornado Gr4 with the full strength of that aircrafts potential loadout, but with an appropriate and reasonable SP cost for that loadout or some other fair and reasonable mitigation method that doesn’t require rather major artificial nerfs to aircraft within every single gamemode, even those where it should not matter.

With the coming new SPAAs I am hoping that CAS can be unrestricted further and aircraft added over the course of the past or so years, can gain more of their IRL performance.

Nerfing the vehicle class to a state it should be in wouldn’t require a cost decrease to compensate tldr.

This is more of a Bias type of discussion, being for TO mode even i say brimstones need to be buffed at least SOME from the state they are in instead of just letting KH be the top competitive option for funsies. Gaijin knows exactly what it’s doing by making tons of horrible developmental decisions.

You expect everybody jump into planes after two or three kills and doing ARB while on the ground nobody is doing capture point sound very easy unless you play custom game of course.

I’d love to see the Yak’s lose their APHE rounds…either that or they should get a big BR increase. Also would love to see some better SPAA for the UK tree as the Skink just doesn’t cut it until you unlock the Falcon ect

You certainly won’t find me to be keen on guided missiles (outside of the sparse few wartime examples).

When Gaijin proceeded beyond the Korean war era in both AF and GFs, I was not a cheerleader. Guided missiles and things such as radar SPAAs have brought balance issues that have ebbed and flowed as time has progressed. Guided weapons, helicopters, French reserves…I’m no fan of them.

As you might recall from previous conversations, you and I have different opinions about exactly how air/ground balancing can/should work. I certainly will not tell you the status quo is perfect as-is…it isn’t (especially as technology comes in at higher tiers).

It is refreshing to see that your stance is measured (a la your analogy) and not plainly biased against aircraft as some others’ takes are
