If you die to a plane, you can switch to a counter for planes. If you don’t die to a plane, there’s no need to switch.
Let alone that you only need an SPAA or CAP some of the time, and when there is no CAS, you are basically AFK in most cases
For some dying to the plane is not an issue as they die faster than any plane can appear.
The best part is when guy just crashes the moment You spawn again in SPAA or CAP. The most amusing is suicide bombing.
and if i dont?
tomahawk gaming
Can’t be good in tank as it makes some people frustrated
Refer to my earlier comment
A big issue with CAS vs SPAA/CAP balance is that you need SPAA or CAP BEFORE the CAS, otherwise there is no balance at all. CAS at most BRs and instances can attack without any threat (there are exceptions, like at lower BRs where roof mounted MGs are a threat, or AFV/IFVs with AA rounds, or just good aim, but its not guranteed threat)
So if there was a way to have an MBT and an SPAA active at the same time, or MBT and a CAP aircraft at the same time, and when there was a threat, you could switch to the required vehicle… Then maybe CAS wouldnt be as strong and thus it could actually be buffed in places.
SPAA and CAP is boring as hell if there is nothing to shoot at, so it gives you something to do as well.
If we look at Naval where everything essentially has a built in SPAA, CAS is actually very weak.
Does need some balance, because EVERYONE having SPAA or CAP up would be kinda stupid, so maybe needs a limit or something, but Im not sure. In any case, there is definetly something that could be explored now multi-vehicle vehicles exist
Id definetly start with the idea of Multi-vehicle SPAAs having a reasonable light tank option that was optional and maybe add a “park vehicle” keybind, which would essentially be the same as J-ing out, but it wouldnt kill your vehicle, only transfer you back to the vehicle selection window where you could pick something else. If this was an aircraft, it would still cost the full amount and to “park” it maybe you would have to land first, though could orbit like drones do (though fuel could continue to be used) and you could re-select the first parked vehicle too
perhaps i wasnt clear.
what if i dont die to a plane, but there is an enemy plane i need to deal with.
What then? I still need to switch. I still need to either die, or lose a vehicle.
If they get enough sp. You would* need lots of sp for that. And you can only control 1 at time. And it would reward players with good performance. We have nuke for that rn but its just too simple, boring and without any depth. And can be removed in blink of an eye.
Difference is that it often has no consequences. To switch to sniper in tf2 you just respawn as sniper and can do it as much as you want. In war thunder you are restricted with spawnpoints. You cant switch to fighter as often. Not only spawnpoints jump dramatically, you can only respawn twice.
You can fly back to airfield and cruise there in circles automatically like drones do. Or sit at airfield. Still better than current system.
At low tier, this only applies to the start of the match. It only takes a tank or two to be bombed for people to start spawning SPAA and CAP.
Once you hit ~7.0-11.0 however, SPAA starts to become massively overpowered (1980s facing 1940s for some reason) and so CAS and CAP both become unplayable, and as a result SPAA has nothing to shoot down and becomes unplayabe.
That doesn’t solve the core issue, which is plane spawns are rare giving SPAA nothing to due. That just covers up the issue so ppl ignore it.
We might aswell just give SPAA a brainrot screen to pass the time when no planes are spawned.
Alternatively, we skip the entire headache of all the balance and gameplay issues of giving players multiple vehicles, and instead solve the actual issue of there not being enough planes to shoot down.
If they ain’t killin no1 you don’t “need” to deal with em.
You spawned a tank, if you want to shoot down planes then spawn SPAA or CAP.
Great, so now we can have 4 man squads in downtiers driving 8+ Maus’s to the capture point (cause you have enough SP for 2 right off the bat) with CC.
Yeah I’m gonna have to take a hard pass on that. We all know people won’t be using the multiple spawns for SPAA and CAP.
Still gonna take a long time to get the plane back to the battlefield, so the “issue” you were trying to solve of CAP being instantly available without respawning, still isn’t solved.
Exactly.
1 or 2 people have to be bombed first
You very rarely have someone is SPAA before the CAS, only reacting to it afterwards.
Right? So if I was in say a Sky Sabre, and there was nothing to do, I could swap to an Ajax or something and go off doing light tank things.
And after that, they can choose to respawn as SPAA or CAP, so the problem is solved.
Alternative solution, actually give the Sky Sabre something to do instead of adding an entirely separate feature that would undoubtedly break the game.
As I said before, 1 vehicle per class: tank, aa, heli, cas, interceptor.
Payment for safety. Either risk and be available any moment or play safe but take longer to reach enemy. Also you can just direct plane at battlefield / airfield and it will fly there on its own so you can play tank during that period.
At what rank though?
The aircraft carrier doomed the battleship in WW2.
The difference though is dozens of aircraft attacking one ship, with human error in aiming the guns vs 1 aircraft flying into very accurate usually AI controlled AA fire all aiming at it alone.
Let alone all the other advantages in-game, such as the limited affect of weather and greater situational awarness or ease of firing guns. (bringing 12x 6" HE-VT shells to bear against an aircraft in-game is exceedingly easy)
Whilst there are certainly some examples that the Naval AA is underperforming, such as missing HE-VT on some ships or the entire state of the Vanguards Anti-Air Radar and FCS. CAS is still much weaker than pretty much any ship, even with the enhancements CAS gets such as laser accurate bomb sights. There are exceptions like low ranks of Coastal and a few destroyers here or there, but that is often canceled out when you factor in everyones AA firing at the limited aircraft and not just a 1v1 situation.
oh aimbot… never mind. I take it back.
Basically, even with the recent-ish reworks, its still pretty accurate, and even without it, aiming and firing HE-VT shells isnt that hard. Especially when firing loads of them, and thats without factoring in Cold-War ERA anti air ships like HMS Tiger with radar lead indicators or the few SAM ships vs mostly WW2 props.
Are we there yet? (getting a separate game mode for tanks only :D )
