yea, i am living a rage induced fever dream because i want to play ground vehicles without getting killed by air vehicles.
unfathomable concept, i should be burned like a witch for such an out of line idea
(nobody tell this guy about “air RB”, he will get a heart attack)
If your interest is to play a mud mover. Something that is unlikely to survive against a fighter. Then “just play ARB” isnt really… possible and what gameplay is on offer, is basically just “bomb this static target”
Air Sim offers some better oppotunities for CAS gameplay, but it isnt a huge amount better either and is far from dynamic gameplay. And of course, not all like the limitatons imposed by Sim. An RB EC gamemode is apparently in the works, but could be a while
If your interest is to play a heli… Then you are completely screwed because its not even worth mentioning Heli PvE.
So… “just play ARB” fails to accept that ARB is basically only designed for fighters. Aircraft that (with the exception of the top tier multiroles) should not be classed as “CAS” in GRB.
Honestly I don’t find top tier cas that bad, I only get LGBed or KH-38ed once in a while.
Mid tier cas though is HORRIBLE, I can barely use my T-34-85 or whatever without half the lobby being aircraft.
Anyway my fix would be keep GRB the exact same, just limit aircraft to 3-4 per team at one time.
Make a new TRB mode (tank realistic battles), a mode just for tanks.
Lastly make a ARB PvE mode, but I think this needs to be done well as current PvE modes suck. For this to work I would expect like at least 6-8 bases, and a very large amount of respawning targets spread out (I find the helicopter PvE sucks due to targets being concentrated and when they respawn take a long time to get to. It just becomes a race for the first person with the best helicopter to just get all the targets)
Also for the ARB PvE mode I would say keep same reward system as normal ARB, because the sim and Heli PvE reward system sucks booty
Also thinking back this PvE mode could have a bombing mechanic for bombing larger cities (actually probably “industrial targets”). They would have a huge health pool or be a huge amount of individual targets. This could be realistic, fun, and prevent people with slower planes having an absolute struggle spading or grinding. Also just image the B-17 custom servers and squadron runs
make it same as arcade. you can bring your own planes, but it needs to be reward based. remove plane spawning cheaper through scouting. that just allows people to be dumb team mates, roam around for a bit. scout a few targets, and then get themselves killed just so they can spawn a plane. we should remove that.
if you get 2 or 3 ground kills, you can spawn in a plane of your choosing.
only a solution that works for all players is going to work.
planes in ground battles can be a fun aspect, but they should add a ground-only gamemode so that you can choose what you play against
Just increase the cost of spawning an aircraft, especially with ordinance, and also increase the rewards for shooting down aircraft as spaa, maybe even reward players shooting down aircraft with non-spaa.
And give spaa a very basic indicator like the lead indicator in arcade but reduce it down to a simple arrow that gives you a very rough idea of where to aim.
Spawn costs won’t really stop the problem of Realistic ground battles being ruined by CAS. What might would be the REMOVAL of AIR SPAWNING and make Taking Off compulsory as with Simulator battles. This might also limit some of the impossibly heavy bombloads that seem to be ‘stuffed’ under the aircraft now…who hasn’t lost half their team to a 5000kg bomb. In addition, landing safely back at the airfield also be made a condition for kills and battle points to count…that should take care of the ‘Kamikaze’ problem. Skill should be rewarded after all.
This one doesn’t really make sense to me. You kill 3 tanks, get shot down by SPAA and get zero rewards? I’m down for forced take-off, but having to land to get all your rewards is really odd and out of place for War Thunder.
The issue is the good old mediocre player CRASHING INTO TANKS. If they have to land SAFELY…NO KAMIKAZE TACTICS. By safely i mean NOT a wheels up belly landing as a certain Pe8 user does. If you played Birds of Steel Gaijin got that correct as Kamikaze crashing into aircraft on the runway didn’t work but for some reason like all aspects regarding aircraft in this game it has been dumbed down. This should not be a shoot 'um up game.
This would be the same as saying no tank vs tank kills should count unless the player enters a cap zone as a method of stopping camping.
It just wont work and Gaijin will never implement it.
They would need to code that you still get rewards if you RTB after sustaining damage. Would suck if you got several kills, but had a landing gear shot off and now those kills are just void because you had to belly land. Which is why Gaijin does not code that even for air battles, it would be too much work for no real gain and you could just deploy landing gear and rip them off to trigger that.
Whilst people belly landing is a shame, its hardly worth being up in arms about. There are some aircraft which are much easier to land like that because the runways can be too short. Hunters without drag chutes for example are a pain to land.
I know they won’t change a thing because Gaijin won’t even do anything about the unsportsmanlike/cheating going on that i have brought to their attention; well i say nothing, they did, they removed my post immediately. I digress, how would you eliminate the Kamikaze problem seeing that tanks can’t crash into aircraft?
Nothing. They died, that is their consequence. Spawning an aircraft already costs loads of SP, and does cost them SLs as well to repair. If they kamikazed to kill 1 person, then they’ve wasted that spawn, when they may have been able to get multiple kills with RTBs or even just dropping bombs on different targets within a single sortie.
And I see no way of distinguishing between someone “intentionally ramming” a tank. Or someone that made a mistake, misjudged when to pull out of a dive, didnt see a tree or just had a bad lag spike.
so remove that feature* (arguably ahistorical, and dumb) or give rewards for landing? I’m not sure what the perfect solution would be, but it definitely isn’t “lets make rewards delayed”. What if you cannot land because the match has ended? What if you get shot down? What if you want to continue flying and taking out enemy aircraft? Does playing CAP mean you don’t get rewards until you land- giving up the airspace you control? Its a solution that only works if you think of it from one perspective, whereas we’re talking about a game that has two perspectives, and arguably way more.
Also how would you stop this? You can land w/ critical damage and be repaired, so losing your gears (or damaging fuselage w/ belly landing) is also landing w/ damage. There is no proper way to “stop belly landings”.
The whole point of this game is to kill enemies, if then take objectives (which is almost impossible without shooting enemies). This is literally the whole point of a “shoot 'um up” game. Aircraft shoot eachother, tanks shoot eachother, etc. Nobody is playing War Thunder purely because “ooh I can fly!” or “ooh i can drive”, because if they did then they’d go to Microsoft Flight Sim or any other vehicle game.
edit
*also want to say im not advocating for this either. they’re sacrificing themselves to get the kill, their death is their punishment. They will almost always be in a negative SP trade and wasted their opportunity to get more kills.
