Witch race time again…Why why why…is this SADISTIC event the only way to get a PO-2? Seriously? The very few players on top (with unusually high psycho neurological control) always say “it’s not that hard” :P, others say “it’s extremely hard, but it’s worth it, however the plane IS the worst plane in the game” HUH??? The rest of us (majority I think) say “it’s the most infuriating event of the year if not the whole game, and not worth suffering through”.
I thought this game was about people who love military vehicles, and getting to enjoy playing them with fair challenge? I’m a huge fan of biplanes so I’d love to have the PO-2, but I never will as long as this event is the only way to obtain one, because I, and many other players just aren’t good at, and, or HATE racing games, and no matter how much we try and how much technique you use you just end up frustrated and angry and quit, so all of your precious life’s time you put into the event is waisted. I take part in almost all events as long as the rewards interest me, and they all rely on a FIXED SCORE to succeed, not a finite amount given to a gifted few.
Now I love war thunder. It’s my favorite game, I play every day, and have put more money into it for premiums, skins, and loot crates than any other game I’v ever played by far. I love how the developers keep adding new content to keep it fun, interesting, and giving you something to strive for, and in general just trying new things, almost all of them very positive, but this “witch race” exists in the NEGATIVE realm. The gameplay itself is about as fun as banging your head into a brick wall blindfolded, and the idea of grinding for TEN DAYS to keep inside of the top 1000 players comes off as a sick joke to me. All for a simple starter plane that every player should be able to enjoy, not just the elitists of the game. I hope one day the company realizes this, and gives us a fair way to get the little PO-2, because life is too short…
Po-2M is far from a airplane to start the game and at the same time have an enjoy with it. It’s merely a collector material: it’s the slowest airplane in-game and fairly weak weaponry. You’re bothered for not being able to get an essentially trophy because other people could do better than you. Considering that you’re a console player I would assume, when you get access to the Gaijin Marketplace, Po-2M will be there simple as that in a fairly cheap price compared to other vehicles available there.
Yes I am an Xbox player, and thus I don’t have access to the market. Regardless I’m NOT bothered by the fact that other people do better than me in this event, or any other part of the game. More power to them. You shouldn’t be so cynical.
As I said I just like biplanes, and it bothers me that I can’t play with it. I don’t care if it’s slow, not competitive in game, or if you, or anybody else think it’s “just a trophy” or not enjoyable to play. Who gets to decide what’s enjoyable to play btw? Please tell me? ? ? Whatever happened to just having fun, and not taking the game so seriously? I just wish the developers would give players an alternate way to get the plane instead of this same stale, drawn out event year after year. Thats all.
The kicker is that it WAS a tech tree plane, but was removed.
It needs to just be researchable one per year like the maus and the race skin with the jack-o’-lanterns can be the reward for the race.
Po-2 is useless, really useless plane in WT. But it’s a legendary plane.
I got it in the event couples of years ago and it was a really suffering.
I got the naval Po-2 too. I think it can be useful to cap points in low tier naval battles, because soviets don’t have a lot of hydroplanes in their TT.
the event IS a drag, I give you that.
What makes it annoying is that:
everyone knows the best line - so it does not become a race to find and try for the best line, but a challenge how to push opponents into rocks without hurting yourself.
the competition is so stiff, that even IF you fly the best line you can, and IF you don’t crash or get crashed, it is super hard to stay in the top 4 in a match, and 5 and downwards you LOSE points.

The losing of points if you score 5-8 means this is a gamble. It is out of your hands, someone might have a bad day and nudge you. In one game I was 2nd, overtook the 1st, who took offense and pushed me - resulting in me being 7th in the end, because of the close field, having been overtaken in the short timeout by everyone else.
The timeout is broken - I have been able to respawn almost immediately one time, and one other time the timer went 5-4-3-2, 5-4-3-2, 5-4-3-2-1 and THEN I could spawn. By then, of course, I was last and ended the match with -45 points
THICK SMOKE! If someone in the lead has one of the thick smokes, and flies a good line, he cannot be overtaken, because you are effectively BLIND flying behind them.
And there could have been so easy solutions!

the first 1000 people WHO DON’T ALREADY OWN the Po-2, get one. Which means, those who have one, they can happily participate over and over again, but they don’t take away a slot from someone who doesn’t yet own one.

I’ve never liked Gaijin putting the Po-2 behind an event as ridiculous as this, but then I am against the concept of FOMO in general and this is only part of the major FOMO problem War Thunder has.
Old TT vehicles should just be made accesible to everyone, maybe put a certain condition in place before its possible, but then don’t make that an insane condition either.
Most people know about the removed German ground trio, but I wonder how many people know about the old German Italian planes, or the fact that of those planes the Italian TT still doesn’t have 2 of the S.M. 79 versions. Or how many people know about the removed SB-2M’s and Yer-2’s. So many vehicles that were never even premiums (and most aren’t even fake!) yet totally inaccesible to any but the most hardened veterans.
