I really want more US heavies. The lower half of the tech tree is dominated by heavy speed, medium armor, and medium fire power tanks. (Shermans, if you haven’t already figured it out). Despite being one of the major 3 tech trees there is a real lack of vehicle variety. And when I think of ways to fix this, I think of stupid prototype heavy vehicles.
The kind that where never put into production, stupid reload rates, shit mobility and some kind of experimental gimmick (like an oscillating turret or autoloader or something).
We got a taste of this recently with the T58, and I crave more. The M103 is already one of my favorite tanks, and think the US is relatively set for light vehicles, at least in the low to mid tiers. Adding some good heavies in the 6.0 to 9.0 range would really improve the US tech tree, which is otherwise kind of boring. The current win rates don’t make it any more appealing for competitive players.
I would like to clarify that if it means adding said vehicles except they are premiums, I’d rather it isn’t done at all. I want tech tree vehicles, as does everybody else. Maybe one event would be ok, and premiums are covered by the absurd(ly good) T58. I want this done, and done soon.
If anyone wants to suggest some good vehicles within this category, please please do. Have a sorta Wishlist thing going on. Issue is I don’t really know of many, but I’m sure the (more) intelligent people here can come up with some stuff.
So yea
(Sidenote: Too anyone considering a gooner pack, resist the urge. You can do it)
I also want more US heavies, but I don’t know what other US heavies can be added and imma be real, US 6.7 - 7.7 heavies are not good. Massive profile, okay armor, lots of weak spot, mediocre gun with long reload.
I prefer to just use light tank because they are more agile and their gun/ammo are reliable and reload is much shorter
I have expressed my distaste of the T32 and T34 on these forums before. The response wasn’t great.
And I agree about the light tanks. They’re just more fun. But the US tree has light tanks aplenty. (mostly)
T26E5 is fantastic at its own BR. I really enjoy the M6A2E1, but it’s more of a meme tank. So for USA 6.7, if I’m @ BR, I’ll play the T26, and if I’m uptiered, I’ll take out the big donky gun on the E1.
America has tons of “heavy tanks,” but most of them are either heavy medium tanks, e.g M6A1 or 76mm Jumbo, or they’re just really clunky to use like the T34.
The ones that are good, namely T26E5, T26E1, and T32 are more so brawlers than anything else.
What I’m taking from the original post however, is he wants “meme tanks” fielding naval cannons and armor thick enough to shrug off a long 88. In other words, he wants more options similar to M103.
How? T34 sucks, T26E5 good, Jumbo 76 is eh, T26E1-1 is okay but like most US heavy at 6.7 - 7.7 it has a pretty big weak spot at the turret and gun reload is long.
Tiger II are way better, german player are just bad
Long reload, no APHE, 50 cal is okay I guess cuz it can track enemy pretty fast with 3 50 cal, Armor is full of weak spot if you know where to shoot
Yea the gun velocity is good I wont deny that but like I said the armor on it is barely considered a heavy tank quality
Yea recent engine nerf is rough. I played it yesterday and it struggle to move around them map, really unnecessary nerf, sad. But prior to the nerf I love the tiger II, pretty fun to play
Nearly every tank is full of weak spots if you know where to shoot. The reload rate isn’t pretty for the T34, but it’s hardly unusable. Especially when you have tanks like the IS-2 at the same BR. The T34 just requires you to keep some distance and play smart. You can’t just take a group on recklessly.
Play it like a TD, not a heavy tank. If you want to brawl, use the T26E5. The great thing about the US 6.7 lineup is that the heavies each fulfill a special niche that blankets the others’ weaknesses.
The T26E5 struggles against heavily armored vehicles, especially at range, but it’s nearly impenetrable frontally.
The T26E1-1 isn’t particularly durable, nor does it have a quick reload, but the long 90mm hits like a damn truck even at a few kilometers.
The T34 is a pretty good sniper overall. I don’t really care for it. I bring the normal M26 instead. I’m a sucker for Pershings.
Sure, it’s still a fun tank, but the T26E5 and T26E1-1 are nuke printers.
It is great, but I’ve spent the ground event dunking on it with the Flakpanzer 341. It’s still one of my favourite lineups, though. Especially if you have the M6A2E1.
I think it’s more than just okay. I’ve been playing at 7.0 with @TheDudesRug for the entirety of the event. Since unlike him I don’t have the trinity of removed German vehicles, that’s mostly meant uptiering my 6.7 German lineup. This was the result:
K/Ds of 3.3, 4.1 and 4.0 respectively for these three vehicles.
What you were saying about the three American heavies (that they each fulfill a niche) is imho on point but it also betrays how in these discussions the blanket usage of “heavy” can warp discussion. Not all heavies perform the same role.
The Tiger II is not a breakthrough heavy tank, like the T26E5, or even the IS-3 if you’re not pushing alone. Your weakness is the turret front, but you also have great gun handling for a non-stab and you have a reload unmatched by most heavies in that BR range. I find that what the Tiger II shines at is aggressive defence. You take a good position early and you use your turret rotation and good reload to defend against respawning enemies.
A lot of German players misuse it, not just because they think it’s immortal, but because they misuse the gun. With good knowledge of weak spots, the ability to fire every 7s really gives you amazing firepower. But you have to be precise, and most Tiger Timmys are still conditioned to shoot centre mass.
The Tiger II isn’t a breakthrough heavy; that’s not the point I was making. It’s an excellent sniping vehicle; however, that’s pretty much all it’s good at. In every other aspect, it’s outshone heavily by other nations’ vehicles. Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be an issue, and I’d even say it about the T26E1-1, but the difference is that the Super Pershing has the Jumbo Pershing to rely on for flexibility. The King Tiger doesn’t have any other 6.7 Heavy to rely on for biting down and getting into a contested capture zone like the T26E5.
My point was that, as a true heavy tank, it’s not that great. A Heavy Tank used to capture objectives shouldn’t need to be played as a TD due to prominent weak spots, such as the King Tiger or IS-2. That’s why I see the T26E5 as the shining jewel of 6.7 Heavy Tanks. It’s mobile for its armor, has a reliable cannon with good damage, and a fast firerate.
The IS-3 fails specifically in the firerate category, which makes it struggle as a breakthrough vehicle, and the King Tiger lacks raw thickness to take hits frontally, but the T26E5 fixes both these issues and then some, while having the T26E1-1 to compete with the Sniping Heavy playstyle of the King Tiger. Whether you load into Advance to the Rhein or Mozdok, the heavy lineup alone has you covered.
Once again, these vehicles are all good individually, but I’m looking at the bigger picture. The American 6.7 heavy lineup is extremely flexible, and all of its individual components are some of the best in their class.
