Hull Armor of the M1 Abrams

They’ve been using their homegrown 3rd generation PNM-T (Sosna-U) sight for some quite time, but on their most recent modifications of the T-72 and T-80 they have reverted to uncooled 2nd generation thermals

Unfortunately, knowing gaijin this thread will die, together with any hopes of Abrams being relevant in the game

Sadly that is the likely scenario. At the very least I hoped we’d go kicking and screaming but it looks like it’ll be silent with no fight lol

Against HEAT, composite armor tends to be quite chunky. But against KE, you can have two armor pieces of different size but similar performance if the smaller armor piece has a higher density. That’s a rule of thumb, of course. Every piece of armor has to be examined on a per case basis.

I mean, even if expected, there were 2 huge bad news bombs dropped in quick order. So imo it’s understandable that people need a bit of time to come up with what to do.

Just randomly screaming and yelling against Gaijin isn’t really of any use either.

I dont even care about m1 hull protection but it is so funny to see how Gaijin standarts work.
Sometimes they ignore the “sicrit documints” and proofs, but in some cases they buff/nerf the vechicle out of thin air. Truly gaijin moment.

That was a response to someone about M829A2 and A3 for the Abrams bc gaijin didnt want to add a3 and the effectiveness in game bc thry refuse to give the abrams its uparmoring.

Kind of took my reply out of context. Even if my reply itself doesnt mention M1 Abrams

Are you really arguing the existence and service use of the Kiowa? Lmao, found another clown 🤡

Hah! This would make it on par with how the BVM functions in game so not gonna happen!

@Stona_WT how you ended up saying Abrams has DU in turret face when M1A2, M1A1 HC and onwards has turret protection modelled after M1A2 sent to Sweden to trials, with armour that was stated to be non-DU export variant because US Government disapproved export DU to other countries. Pretty much made up just for this trials? There are several proofs that states this armour package was inferior to production M1A2 that US Army has in that time. Your logic is off, you pulled out gaijined reasons to not make Abrams a little bit better.

Well, honestly, so is Gaijin.

If this “heavily modified T-62” would end up being in the game it would have better thermals and UFP than every NATO tank in the game I think hahaha

Homegrown its not Sona u anymore
Its labeled пнм-т and has at least the same statistics
There’s also cheaper thermal that is installed in a t62 t72 1ПН-96МТ-02
And commander thermal.

Wtf you are so confused

This picture is fake…
I really dont want to seem rude but using fake images isnt proving your point. The only russian tanks that get equiped with these “localy” produced 3rd gen thermals are the T90Ms and T80BVMs and even then they are rare.

Examples

The ERA is crooked and seems stiched together. It also has both the IR search light and thermal sight stacked over eachother and you can see the outline of the IR searchlight.

image

The “box” over the barrel looks like a flipped muzzel refrence system copied from the T90M and its not a LRF due to the thermal sight.

Also what on earth is this? It looks like a badly cut out T90M commander turret / optic.

It also had 2 headlights even tho the driver is behinde the person, there is no need to add an extra headlight on the right side.

All in all this picture seems very sus atleast, and unless there are other pictures I will claim this to be fake.

Following that logic it basically means starting with the M1A2 to SEP 2 is purely cosmetic. While they get heavier were not talking much heavier. Per the source Gaijin used were talking a ton difference, which with the Abrams turbine probably not noticeable.

I don’t see the gameplay reasoning for having the same vehicle you have to grind three times. Four if you were a German main starting with the Leo 2A5. Is the “pro” more vehicles for your line up? Least with the Patton and Sherman grind each new tank offered a gameplay upgrade.

At this point most armor values are guesses, so could the weight increase mean high armor values. Yes for the gameplay it could mean increases. Gaijin can make a guess or more importantly a decision to support the gameplay. Per their own admissions the Abrams isn’t preforming where it should be, per their metrics. They’re only real “upgrade” is to pay real money to have the Abrams reload at 5 seconds.

So the sources mean jack and all when they just now realized for fair play the 120 loads just as fast as the 105. They’re justification is a little odd when they could just clearly state its the “advantage” the Abrams will have to make it more competitive.

@Stona_WT then again you said about suspension not being able to withstand greater mass ? Now we have hull from 1979 in game, from M1 Abrams(55t), that have been slapped on with your “DU without greater protection” turret, whole TUSK II mod, and M256 gun on SEPV2. Basically over 15 tons to suspension from 1979 to withstand. Stalinium? Uncle Sam will? Maybe DU in the hull was not to actual armour array but for torsion bars?. And you and devs think they never upgraded it. Made up straight bs.

BVM has infinitely less armor than the screenshot that was shared.
T-80BVM to that screenshot is an Ariete in comparison.
