Hughes AIM-95 Agile - Off boresight before it was cool

this was posted on this same fourm 2 years ago, so yes, if they get added the F-14, only canceled due to the AIM-9L already filling the roll it was meant to inherit in 1975

+1 this is an awesome bit of historical tech and would be cool to see in game (accurately modelled that is)

Yeah ik but from the time I read about this missile it was saying it didn’t finish testing and even had tech problems then it was canceled but know from continuing some research I see other wise now

After reading about this I had a few thoughts, and while it might sound strong at first glance, I realised it relies entirely on thrust vectoring for control and guidance, which means that beyond 11s of flight time it’s only dangerous if a player doesn’t move out of it’s way or flies into it’s path and it proxy’s, vs other missiles that might be able to guide to a target just beyond their motor burnout. It’s certainly a unique property to consider when you go about engaging your targets.

most missiles are duds anyway after 10ish seconds, 11 seconds to kill someone is perfectly fine

Found this hour long documentary about the Aim-95 AGILE (And the ACMID).

Hopefully this can help: https://youtu.be/h5tYY9gIdbs

it has a gimbal limit of 270 degrees and a lock limit of that too

I found this not sure if it’s been seen already tho but you never know

Spoiler

wait what?

How come the aim-95 doesn’t have a suggestion form tho?

Make one

Ima try

Just look at the SRAAM. They removed its All-Aspect IR capabilities for it to be shoehorned into 9.7.
However SRAAM did eventually culminate into what is now ASRAAM. (I need ASRAAM on the Tornado F.3 Late)

Just a shame the missile wasn’t tested on other aircraft, would’ve been nice to see the All Aspect version at higher BRs.

off to 15.0 it goes

i shot a harrier and F-106 from the front with an SRAAM once and got called a slur and something else
