How to play M109A1

I’ ve had the (american) M109A1 for a few months now but everytime I take it in battle I can’t manage to play it effectively. Any tips?

Never consider yourself a frontline vehicle. A good way to play the M109 is to park yourself in a defensible position with good sightlines and shit donk on everything that comes by you with that giant gun. After you have fired a few shots, relocate to a different spot.

I’m looking for some information also how to play because it’s a huge disappointment for me, I was destroyed 3 times in a row by ridiculous vehicles like wiesel aa, renault blew my cannon for 51 seconds of repair, for flakpz IV I had no problem to destroy from the front. complete tragedy this machine. have you learned to play with him yet?

These things aren’t easy to do well, way too big + crappy protection, you always going to find yourself a shoot-once-die tank, most of them could be penned by 50 cal and you are favorite foods for CAP that you get strafed and killed every game should you survived past 3 minutes. The only good armored 155mm derp gunner is the T30, but good luck with that reload timer.

I already gave it away with other usa vehicles because I realized that gjn solves some frustration by putting usa vehicles in a higher br, but the armament will no longer adapt to the br.

Boomstick ≠ instantly OP and Good

Place shots wisely, flank; and stay quiet, that’s about it.

Either you camp and pick off people that don’t expect you or you stick to your team and act as support. Wait until the heavies trade shots and then peak out and finish them.

It’s a great SPAA (far better than M19A1/M42 or M163) due to the proxy aswell.

That’s not true at all,i’ve reached Top Tier without premium or premium vehicles and i can just say that the tanks are either respectable or very good at their BR,only a few selected tanks suffer but it’s a thing for higher BRs (10.0+)

For the M109A1,first of all forget how weak spots normally works: you’re an HE slinger,so your main way of killing vehicles is with overpressure. Most of the times you need to shoot the turret face of a vehicle,but cases vary and therefore looking at the protection analysis before a match is important

Then,light vehicles and SPAA can shred you to bits: having no armor means that enemy APHE shells can’t fuse properly inside of you and solid shots do next to no damage,but it also means that you’re vulnerable to HE shells and autocannons have no problem killing you even at long distances. So stay far from the frontline and give priority to targets with fast firing cannons or to HE slingers, those are the ones that can OHK you

Then,bring a couple of M107(PF) shells with you, they’re absolutely amazing at downing aircrafts and will help you a lot since you’re quite visible from the air

Last but not least: conceal yourself: try to not expose the hull since a hit on the powder charges means dying instantly,as well as a hit on the engine/transmission. Use tunnels, rivers,bridges and houses to your advantage,and constantly scan the battlefield with your binos to find targets or threats and respond accordingly

im not very skilled at the game, but a tip that I can give is that with most tanks that the m109 fights will die in one shot if you shoot next to their cannon.

How to use any of those SPG around that BR:

Step 1) Aim barrel up into the sky.

Step 2) Load HE-VT

Step 3)

Step 4) ???

Step 5) Profit, yadayadayada.
