Hey, so I’ve been grinding the french tech tree with the somua sm over the last year as the first ground tree I’ve seriously put work to get far in past like 7.0, and so far I’ve quite liked the later tiers up to 7.7 even if I dont perform as well in them as I wish I could mainly due to my own skill issue and inexperience. However, due to the lack of stabilizers that everyone else has which seems to be a rather large disadvantage even though the french 8.7 lineup has a lot of other things going for it, I’m mildly concerned that I won’t do well at all in that lineup and won’t be able to figure it out. Is it even a good idea for me to play the lineup, and if so, how should it be played/what can I do to mitigate the downside? I’ve tried watching some vids on them but even then it seems like the kind of lineup you need a lot of prior experience to get the most out of.
France 8.7 is a strong but very odd lineup. The entire lineup lacks Stabs so you have to play at range with the thermals, LRF, and good rounds. I’d say to main the AMX-30S DCA, its great for AT stuff. But, if you don’t like the lineup, just aim for 9.3, its a bit better there.
yeah im just a bit worried about what to do in cqc maps since I feel like my matchmaker gives me those a lot, I do know they’re great at range
7.7 is good in them to me since a lot of people really dont have stabilizers either and you can just go to town with the autoloader and mobility, but that changes at 8.7 and people can react a lot quicker so
Despite the lack of stabilization in most of all tanks at this battle rating, you should consider that the way you should play it is just like a Leopard 1A5, has good cannon you should take advantage of this aspect,
AMX-30s’ has good mobility and decent on-move stabilization, the suspension can help you handle targets while moving specially at lower speeds where you can find yourself in urban maps like Abandoned Town.
