I recently got the M551 Sheridan and need some help on how to play it properly. What rounds should I use and should I flank or not etc.
m551 is an rank 6 light tank so you will have scout drone. use it to your advantage.
at 8.3 its not common to meet heavily armored vehicle. only at 9.0,9.3 start to see kpz70,t-series i believe. so heat will be your main and missile will be your second. you can flank and snipe with heat (the missile is a bit slow compared to your heat)
heat just does no damage tho
some time it acts like that other times it good
Consider using the M409A1 as your main round, the HEAT has enough to pen most vehicles frontally and enough explosive penetration to overpressure sometimes,
The MGM-51B should be your secondary ammunition option due to the long time reload and terrible handling, at long distance maps try to take cover, since this M551 variant doesn’t have laser rangefinder you’re vulnerable in these situations.

Since HEAT can sometime become unreliable against high slope armor . It is ok to carry some M657A2 HE round (2-4 rounds) and load them when you’re sure that you’ll be shooting at solf targets.
Learn ballistic of the shell drop. Since M551 didn’t have FCS like M60A2 . And have quite long reload time You’ll have to manually adjust your aim even when you shooting at around 500-1000m.
M551 has very good mobility and Low profile. Use that as your advantage. Hit n run tactic are your best bet.

If whats said in this discussion doesn’t help, my personal opinion is to completely skip the M551. Its far from a good tank, and stuff like the Bradley will serve you far better. If you like the gun/launcher, use the XM803 or M60A2 :)

you dont, has no business at 8.0, they should either put it 7.7 or change it into the lrf variant

Yeah it is very mid overall as I’m learning, i hope gaijin will reduce it’s br in the future
heat and shiliages are good, but other than that: become rat
well i am very bad at being a rat even in “rat tanks” like XM800T.
How does one "RAT" professionally?
You find some nice hiding place and wait for the right time to strike.

The M551 is also atgm capable right? (Could be confused with an other one).
Can always suggest using your speed to find a spot, fire at a target and move positions after firing.
Doesn’t have to be 100 meters but just enough to make the enemy look towards the worng spot and fire another shell before they’ve found out where you are.
And offcourse when you feel comfortable enough just speed to a point of preferance and make some poor fella headbutt a heat round.
Scout and lob heat at people while behind cover. Dont use the missile because its dogshit
