I have no idea how to fight that thing. I’m currently using the MiG-19PT and whilst I can avoid getting shot down by it I am completely unable to get a good shot at it.
How do you kill that thing?

Distance fuse rockets
No Ariete player expects to get nuked by a well fired ranged bomb
you run away forever and third party it. you will never win a dogfight against it
Just run away and then stuff a R-3S up his bum
Or the rocket fuze idea, either way never dogfight an ariete.
It’s whole niche is it is incredibly good at dogfighting and nothing else. It is completely vulnerable to missile and hit and runs (it compresses pretty bad when it’s fast)
I recommend you never engage this plane, only if you have a height advantage and the ariete is going fast. Then you can dive on it and just get the surprise kill.
Otherwise it is incredibly vulnerable to missiles, which it can do nothing about. If I was in a MiG-19PT I would get a height advantage at start of the match, and then if I see an ariete I’d dive on it and try to shoot him. If I miss first shot, go straight up so that you stall the ariete. Then we you go down launch the R-3S (which should hit because he would have no energy to dodge).
When you get better missiles in like MiG-21M, it is incredibly easy to deal with the things by just launching an R-60 up their bum at Mach 1.5
Also, I usually never fly above 5000m in my ariete, so a good idea (and just good idea in general for 9.0) is climb up to like 7000m at the start of the match, fly a little bit, and then flank when the majority of the enemy team goes past you. Also you shouldn’t have to worry about radar missiles, and the only ones you do worry about can be kinetically dodged (R511, R-3R)
You’ll have to bait them to a vertical energy fight, while maintaining rather high speeds. Check the differences between the two planes on statshark.
Ariete can’t maintain as much energy generation upwards as a Mig-19 can.
You’ll have to give them enough hope for them not to go back down.
You can only energy fight it, and you dont produce that much more energy than it. The Ariete should be ~9.7 or 10.0 atm.The other users are massively overestimating the energy generation difference between the mig19 and ariete.
These graphs do not show the real performance difference. I implore you to go near an ariete that has near energy with you in game and go vertical and see how long it actually takes to gain separation. It takes a lot longer than ppl think
Sure they do. In the Mig-19 you can climb at Ariete’s straight line top speed. You can also climb at Ariete’s VNE. That’s enough to determine who’s going to be the bottom in the relationship. All you need to do is not have yourself be caught with your pants down, but at that point it doesn’t matter which planes are involved.
Again, theoretical vs practical
I just tried it in test flight. You can try it for yourself.
I flew the MiG19 all day today. Against arietes.
Not an argument
I already gave you the argument. What you say works in theory but not in practice due to the Ariete’s massive MER. It is very trivial for the ariete to sit on you for quite a length of time before you can gain separation
Bro, the only good way to defeat ariete is make him stall then launch a missile
You’re underestimating Mig-19s MER at high speed.
Don’t let that happen in the first place. You have the necessary tools to prevent that.
No.
Yes, by playing bnz in a mig19 which is obviously not optimal.
Turning and climbing at a speed greater than Ariete’s VNE is not enough MER for you?
Well then bait the Ariete into an energy fight that it cannot win. Again, you have the tools to do so, just need patience.
I’m not going to continue replying if you don’t read what I’m saying. What you speak is purely theoretical and in actual matches an ariete has more than enough MER and vertical energy retention to stick to you long enough to hit you with its high velocity railguns of cannons.
Energy fighting an ariete is like turnfighting a spitfire in an A6M. You can do it, the spitfire can also dumpster you if you make even a small mistake in line. The ariete will do the same and railgun you with its easy to aim guns by maintaining plenty of speed, as its probably only 2nd to the MiG-19 in this regard at 9,3.
It is practical though. I’ve been doing it in an F-106, and the differences between Ariete and Mig 19 vs Ariete and F-106 are similar: The Ariete is too slow and it cannot maintain a turn at high speed without losing energy. You don’t even need a turn, put it in a shallow climb and you gain vastly more energy over an Ariete. All you need to do is not let one close to you, just like you would in a P-51 vs Zero fight.
Just like OP mentioned, he can avoid getting shot down by Arietes, all he needs is a weapon against them. Only way to avoid getting shot down by them is to outenergy them, and using that, you can also bait them into an unfavourable situation (a stall).
If you get your ass caught it’s the PILOTS fault, not the machine. The machines and their differences are irrelevant at this point.
