Not necessarily. The main advantage of AESA is that it basically scans everything within the FoV of the radar near instantly and can always update. A Mechanical radar has to do sweeps and can only maintain updates with each pass. CAPTOR-M though has a few tricks up its sleave that allow it to do things normally only AESA Radars can do (You can read about Priority track here )
Basically this :D
But Mechanical scan radars can have just as much range and power
Ok that’s makes sense becuase I was getting confused how an analog radar was even in the same playing field as a digital. Also I heard from my great uncle who was part of the US mass upgrading there radars (AV8B, F-15 etc.) to digital and he told me they were upgraded because mechanical was worse which gave me the impression they were bad lol.
F14 had analog radar and it was good in game it stink
AESA radars are better than Mechanical as a general rule of thumb, but a good mechanical radar can keep up. There isnt anything implicity “bad” about a mechanical radar, just AESA can do it generally better
CAPTOR-M should beat out all other Mechanical radars by a comfortable margin and was apparently on-par with early PESA radars but proper AESA radars will have the advantage. The Typhoons though are currently being outfitted with AESA radars, so hopefully we wont be stuck for ages with CAPTOR-M vs AESA in game.
pretty sure mig 31s analog radar was strong enough to burn through EF counters
I have no idea. But the Mig-25/31 were basically just a radar tied to massive engines and encased in a ton of steel.
Is it possible for analog radars to use data link?
yes
Do you mean multiple radars working together?
yes, absolutely. That is more on the aircraft and its other systems rather than the radar.
Which country has the best data link then and do you think we’ll see it in game with more and more radars being added?
mig 31 did that it was meant to be a make shift awacs if need be
right now only russia cause gaijin decide to add AIM7 M rather than AIM 7P because russia suffers or something
The best sensor fusion at the moment is the F-35, but many aircraft like the Typhoon, Rafale, etc have high levels of sensor fusion
In-game. Probably the Rafale because its HMD will display friendly targets via data-link (A-10C can do it as well, but is a ground attacker)
Yep, they are more radar than jet iirc
Is there a difference between muiltpul radars working together vs multiple radars working as one (updating each other and stuff like that)? Like IK the F-16s can mark stuff on data link and give accurate marks on other aircraft to other F-16s.
I dont think so.
Cant the F16s F22s and F35s HMD recognize friendlys too?
F-35 I would assume yes.
F-16 and F-22 will depend on which HMD they have.
Like the Typhoon can as well, but only with the Striker II helmet and in-game we only have the Striker I at the moment (which is really annoying because the Rafale has a HMD from a later variant, but the Typhoon cant)
yes its a common feature on newers ones but i think they do it differently on ones in game using something else a transponder of sort
