I was very happy to research Yamato, but when I played the first match, I thought that all the effort I put into reseaching Yamato was wasted.
I don’t have much naval skill and I really don’t know how to play Yamato? As soon as I spawn, it doesn’t take long for me to one-shot quickly, then i take back up and one-shot again. That is, if I pick a heavy cruiser at rate 8.7, I will survive longer.
Mostly by the Russian ship Sovetsky soyuz
I feel it is very overpowered.
I saw many reports from users who reported a series of problems with Yamato and most of them were rejected as game balancing. I really don’t understand what this balance is.
If you have a solution on how to play with this ship, please tell me.
From what I hear that ship ranges from good to excellent in most things barring decent AA and poor speed. That might be where the issue lies. Do you recall what it’s like fighting other top end battleships?
Yamato is really disadvantaged by its diamond shaped armor
There’s no miracle solution to be fair, if someone with powerful guns aims at you (Iowa or Soyuz) you are most likely dead.
Your best bet is to stay as far as possible if possible, and whatever you do : don’t angle, or at least not by much. Better to show your strong belt than the weak corner plate or frontal plate
The only way to survive is hope you aren’t targeted.
When you get in a match don’t spawn, go to the screen that shows the amount of players in a match, it both prevents you from autospawning in and showns when people are spawned in vs sitting in the lobby.
Sit and wait for a minute or two and then spawn, preferably at the location which has the most friendlies.
And then pray no one spots you since that octagonal citadel cannot be angled and every ship in the 7.7-8.7 bracket can punch through your bow and into your magazines.
Alternately play EC when the mode is up as you actually get to fight at proper combat ranges where the armor can work.
There’s no fix or change coming to improve her survivability simply because of the 270-330mm of frontal bulkheads protecting the magazines, this is it
There is no game balancing conspiracy done to Yamato. The ship was designed for 20km+ engagements and whilst its weakness of octagonal shaped citadel not being a great issue in real life, is death sentence in the game’s small maps.
Simply do not play Yamato in maps that doesn’t suits it. It is a ship of extreme - either to be almost invincible at the design’s intended range, or otherwise being an extremely easy kill. Play it in big maps or EC if you want to enjoy it.
Don’t play it until the developer fixes all the bugs.
Currently, the confirmed accepted bugs are:
1.The magazine depot model penetrates the main armor, resulting in damage to the ammunition depot even if it is not penetrated.
2.The inclination angle of some armor is incorrect, and the height of the main armor belt below the second turret is too low, resulting in a too small angle of the horizontal armor above it.
3.Modeling of internal partitions in the hull. At present, Yamato is the only new battleship without internal armor partitions, neither horizontal decks nor anti fragmentation layers behind the main armor belt.
The first and second points will significantly affect yamato’s survivability, while the third point, if repaired, will not bring much survivability gain, but at least it can ensure that not all ammunition that penetrates you will damage important modules inside, such as ammunition depots and boilers.
Don’t queue when theres a single player queueing for russia rank 7 or us (they will instantly target you and most likely oneshot you with their first or second salvo). Then again, any other ship with somewhat decent pen can do the same from the front to your angled bulkhead with all the ammo behind while you cant empty secondary magazines. Just don’t play yamato on small maps. J out and leave when you see a full salvo going to anywhere close of the giant magazines before you even get a chance to turn side on on tiny 10 km engagement range maps.
The magazine apparently being modelled bigger resulting it penning the armor and exloding even when the armor isnt penned is hilarious af. especially for the poster ship of the patch.
Thinking about it, just don’t play the yamato atm would be the easiest and best advise. Can’t get killed if you just don’t play it ;-) just stick with the amagi and mutsu i guess. Unplayable vs any other 8.7 and unplayable on small maps means you can maybe play it every 10th match. GL spading her with stock he
One of my bug report about the Yamato dying instantly once his auxiliary storage is destroyed has been accepted, once fixed the Yamato will probably survive a salve now
a salvo that hits midships. wont save it from the angled bulkhead problem but that hopefully gets better when the ammo hitbox isnt phasing or interfering with the bulkhead anymore. Also wont save it from the basically invincible souyzs
the soyuz will also be fix too, he’ll be now killable when facing you that an improvement but i’ve still an issue with his pocket dimension technologie that make the fire in his elavator useless since it can’t reach the ammorack
You can’t, most ships can hit the keg under the yamatos forward guns. You need to turn around and run to about 18-20km to lesser the chance at penetration.
what’s make the Yamato so weak was mostly his auxiliary that one taped him when it was tickled by anything, i’ve already survived a main ammoracked with the Yama tbh after all the fix he will prob be " better " and more enjoyable to play
i really hope so. its kinda hilarious for a ship with a k/d of 1.7 to sit at the same br like the soyuz with 7.2.
Couple of matches ago a soyuz was sailing all the way of big south kvarken. almost into our spawn, everyone ignored him, no one wanted to deal with that bs. until me, another yamato and iowa agreed to attack him at the same time. it almost took us (and all the bots in spawn) some solid 5 minutes (rough guess) to do him in (also because he was angled) fair and balanced. I mean he couldnt shoot back and probably couldnt see a whole lot because of the 1000s of shells constantly exploding but man. And the soyuz changes, not sure if that changes a whole lot and ill only believe that when its actually implemented.
Well a player that knows how to play the Soyuz could easily get a K/D above 30, i’ve seen some wild score like 111 kills and 2 death while i’m struggling to goes above a 3.0 K/D with the Yamato so yeah that kinda weird that they keep it that way with the soyuz, even though i know that the future fix will help the Yamato i am not dumb to think that she will become better than the Iowa or the Soyuz, she will be just " more enjoyable " than now, i just hope that gaijin will understand the player base that how broken the Soyuz is right now and will do some major or minor fix that will help that beast to be sunk more easily cuz the only weak point i’ve found was to shot under the citadell but even with that the soyuz won’t die with an single detonation in the ammorack so…
Actually I think it will be an issue in real life too as there are no guarantee that battle between battleship will occur in super long range. We just have an example even on pacific theatre: Kirishima vs Washington & South Dakota which took at 8 km.
Outside of EC, it is flat out impossible for Yamato to fight in Naval. The best results I got were when the enemy team was nice enough not to shoot me. Thats it. Even if you wait forever, immediately turn away to get back, the millisecond something decides you should die YOU WILL. Most penetrating hits are automatically fatal no matter where, and I’ve had bots one-tap me like 30 seconds into the match because a random 15in shell hit my secondary ammo rack (which you cannot empty), and this thing does not survive any ammo detonation, shell room or not, regardless of ammo count.
So until Gaijin either gives the capability to spawn with the carriers or gives us the ability to decide which direction we can spawn in, I wont play Yamato outside of EC.
In its current state Yamato is unplayable in Naval RB. Iowa and Soyuz are so much better and it’s not even remotely close.
Yamato is currently dying to each and every ammo explosion: auxiliary, secondary, shell room. I wouldn’t call it a conspiracy, it’s probably an unintentional bug. In any case, Yamato isn’t weak just because of it’s armor design, these bugs play a big role too. We have them all reported, it should be somewhat more survivable when that’s fixed.
