I’m still relatively new to the new top tier Air RB meta with Fox-3’s, as the last meta I played a decent bit in was the IRCCM meta and when the F15A released.
In an attempt to get into this meta, I researched and played a decent bit of the F15 MSIP II, which while it had good missiles and a good radar, I could not stand it’s very sluggish high speed maneuverability. So I ditched that.
Right now, I am actively researching the Su27SM and am currently trying to go all the way up to the Su-30M2 and need a good rank 8 plane to finish the grind.
Can it hold its own today at 13.7?
And a little side question, is Russia even worth grinding top tier air right now or should I stick with Germany / France / U.S

US is not looking too good right now. From what i have heard SU-30SM2 is a very good plane, I think you should probably stick to Russia for now. After getting SU-30SM2 and you don’t like it, then you can probably shift to another nation :)

Oh really? I remember when it was released people said it wasn’t very good (specifically the R77’s and its radar.)

radar is pretty weak still, but the way the fox 3 meta has evolved from the release of seek and destroy. Missile maneuverability and high off boresight targeting is preferred now over missiles with long range since people have learned to notch effectively. So the strategy is just to get close to people and shot them so they dont have time to notch.
Also the Su-27SM has received a very strong engine buff making it very fast and all flankers getting a flight model buff some time ago

But still compared to say J-11B it is far off.
Maybe in terms of radar, otherwise both of them sit very close to each other in terms of effectiveness i’d say. J-11B will be a tad bit worse up close, due to PL-12 not pulling as hard as R-77, on the other hand with J-11 radar you probably don’t have to be as close as with Su-27SM.
J-11B’s radar is that much better and also even kinetically it is still better. I am really an enjoyer of J-11B, so far my highest K/D in top tier, even better than J-10C, but still I feel like with the ability to spam this hard it really should be 14.0.
Well, you do you. I have zero problems with using N001 even in full uptiers ( it’s obviously not as good as J-11B radar). And kinematically they are very very close so it probably will come into play in extremely rare cases. If we didn’t had absolute monsters at 14.7, both Su-27SM and J-11B could be sent to 14.0 with zero problems.
