Basically, Theres a whole wide variety of radars in war thunder, But it feels like they all act basically the same. Even the high end type radars that are being used today lose lock or get fooled as easily as post ww2-cold war radars.
In short, Just how worse are most of these radars compared to their irl counterparts?
I’ll avoid deep diving into the radars themselves and im not well versed on the precise details, but there are a number of game limitations that limit radar performance in game.
Such as:
Chaff is… wierdly modeled, thats about as good of an explanation as I can really state how it should be modeled, but its not like it should be IRL
Radars usually only stick to a single mode, where instead the more modern radars should be swapping modes to maintain lock, currently half the radars at top tier literally cant see anything close to a notch, this is complete nonsense
There are a number of missing features like Priority track for M-Scan radars and other such missing features
but the biggest issue… its just buggy. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. With the radars creating random false returns and providing wierd updates, with the INS tracking just… not being even close to accurate.
So I dont know if I would describe it as “nerfed” but they are certainly in need of better modeling
From the way it is modelled, do you think that they originally coded it for WW2 and very early Cold War instead of future proofing for more modern systems like what have had since 2021?
From what I heard in an interview on YouTube with a former F-106 pilot, chaff worked on radar in such a way that it acted like a cloud that reflected radar waves.
From a distance, to the radar, such a cloud looked like a large object with a strong radar return, often similar to the aircraft itself.
