bvr in wt is mostly for show/unneeded as you can basically always close distance for higher percentage shots while being safer, the game doesnt advocate for using it, ppl just kinda do
makes zero sense to call it the worst, like literally zero none
Exactly.
People talk about 50km ranges as if they made AIM-120 superior, when all you need to do to evade such long range launches is to gently notch or pull a circle or two semi-circles.
That’s literally all it takes, and you get more than a minute to do it.
Meanwhile, AIM-120 won’t often even be able to pull enough to hit targets in ACTUAL gameplay engagement ranges while R-77-1/MICA-armed can hit you from 180-270° launch angles.
never been my experience, outside of extreme hobs scenarios or ranges within 4-5km I have always been able to get high success chance shots off
Sometimes, I die to BvR launches…
When I’m alt-tabbed and AFK. That’s pretty much the only way I die to 25+km launches. And that’s saying a lot, because I absolutely suck at Air RB.
Otherwise, as soon as RWR triggers, I just kinda gently turn to the left, and…: that’s it, missile avoided.
However, there’s little to nothing I can do against MICAs upon merging, which is what all matches lead to.
Yeah, you just dont need to actually do nothing more against 77-1 over 25km shots than just turn left, or right. Cant say it’s correct notching :D
I know , unfortunately, that is the biggest drawback what negates so many pros from that missile , and reason why it is still inferior on 120 in game performance.
You think r77-1 is Thrust vectoring missile? it wont pull those turns.
Again, it doesn’t matter if the small % of actually good players know how to avoid bvr, the majority of the playerbase sucks
amraam supposed to superior in range yes but people forget multipath exist and amraams not using superior seeker it all the same only few times i died to an amraam in such range is when fox 3 came out new as i count it like 4 times maybe? but never again i died often around 10-15 km which any missile can pull that off even R-darter worse missile in the game can kill people and become deadly around 10-12 km
the real reason it dominates it nothing more than the fact people die to it often because AMRAAM are in almost every TT in the game except Russia and China have you ever see German Italian Sweden or even Britain complains about AMRAAM? most complain about AMRAAM came from Russian which is only single nation.
But I suck! My stats are mediocre and I die almost every match. Just not to such long range launches as people suggest to be so common- I die whenever the MICA/R-77-1 planes begin merging. Usually when trying to dogfight (often third-partied), head-ons, or generally within 20km.
When I see a red diamond pulling 90-180-270° turns at 1-7 km, I know I’m dead already within 1-5 seconds. Chaff won’t do anything and there’s no time to defend.
I should probably begin sweat-larping and trying to keep 25+km distances while launching AIM-120s, but I just find that so… boring. Specially when only half the missiles actually hit targets because they get unintentionally notched at some point within the 50 seconds it takes them to get close to their target.
But I may give it a try, just for the science.
Then congrats, you are the rare bad player that knows how to notch, not anything else to say
When i hit someone at that range i often surprised and ask to myself how the hell people dying to such range which i found only two type of people die to such range
- Base bombing or bomber like tornado
2.Total clown that don’t even bother listen to RWR
Ovrall range I achieved kill with amraam is around 15-20km range which other missile can achieve it as well especially MICA
- Me browsing the Forums alt-tabbed while eating cereal, sometimes even forgetting that I was on a match xD
good thing the closure rate is going fast enough that youre quickly in the NEZ. he also can notch your amraams at that range with no problem
it will become WVR regardless with competetive pilots and the r-77-1 will win there
inferior against noobs superior against good players
like aim-54 and r27er, metaphorically
Given such range like 25-30km i bet while you doing that you still can dodge it
There one times i dodge amraam coming at me from 28km (around probably shorter or longer a little) while talking to my mom via phone using one hand on mouse chaff don’t even need it oh i’m in Gripen that time btw
It not super death missile like people here said to be launched in long range it will be easy to defeat it regardless of altitude
Which compare to DCS it’s a different story.
Sometimes I do indeed, hahah.
I take-off, alt-tab… and sometimes, when I go back to the game, I realise RWR had been WEEWOOWEEWOO-ing for God knows how long… so, while chaffing, I gently turn left till the RWR signal is at my 3 o’clock and fly perpendicularly for a few seconds; if I still haven’t lost the lock by the time the signal is coming from my 4-5 o’clock, I do a slow U-turn to the left (putting it at my 6) for it to lose lock, sometimes zigzagging a bit for it to lose energy while notching again, depends on how I’m feeling it. Normally just the first step does the job already.
And 99% of the times, that’s literally all it takes. Wooo, so much for the 50 km launch.
However… what am I suppossed to do when a Rafale I’m onto from behind fires a MICA while I am practically on its 6 and the thing still manages to 360 no-scope me, while my 120s fail to hit the Rafale because it turned a bit too tight for the missile’s taste?
Because they haven’t allowed the latest tanks into ground only tournaments.
Here’s the US
And here’s Germany and Sweden for reference
Those Abrams are clearly better than THAT particular competition, but add the Strv 121s/L2A7s/T-90M/T-80BVM and your narrative falls apart.
Keep raging over us mains on self-made posts instead of poisoning other people’s posts.
Wow! No wonder- this is basically 2019 matchmaking.
And yes; back then, the Abrams was indeed the king.
The Abrams started slowly losing relevance in 2021, and, by 2024, it was already crushed by many of the latest additions.
All Abrams variants have been the exact same thing since 2019 because Gaijin refuses to model the upgrades and advantages of the newest variants they’ve been implemented.
That’s why the Abrams has fallen behind. SEP, SEPv2, A2, HC, AIM… are all the same tank we got back in 2019. Meanwhile, all other nations have been getting substantial upgrades gradually.
So yeah. In 2019 it was the goat. Now that we got half a million Strv 122s, 2A7s, etc… it’s nice, but far from great.
The 5 second reload they got as an emergency measure is the only thing that’s keeping them more or less relevant.

In a compressed BR range, that difference doesn’t even matter, its downtiers aren’t even common.
Grow up.
