I never understand how full uptier works, i mean math wise. Can someone explane with maths?

War Thunder’s Battle Rating (BR) system determines what vehicles will fight what vehicles. Matches are played in a span of +/-1.0 BR. So matches will be, for example, 4.0-5.0, or 8.7-9.7.
If you are a 9.7, in a 8.7-9.7 match, you are in a full downtier.
If you are an 8.7 in a 8.7-9.7 match, you are in a full uptier.
If you are a 9.0 in a 8.7-9.7 match, you are in a half uptier (0.3 down, 0.7 up)
If you are a 9.3 in a 8.7-9.7 match, you are in a half downtier (0.7 down, 0.3 up)
I think in a normal 16v16 there are 4 full uptiered, 4 half uptiered, 4 half downtiered, 4 full downtiered.

Actually i didn’t say that correctly.
I mean how do i end up on 95% up tier, but i need a mathematical explanation.

It feels maybe like 95% but it is more like 75%.
This is due to the fact that only 4 players get a full downtier. I suggest getting used to the uptier situation and adapt the playstyle. I even don’t think about this anymore.
There a 12 other tanks you can fight easy if the 4 guys got tough tanks.
Some BRs are popular and as such its rare to get downtiered.
My annecdotal evidence being US 5.7. i dont play anything else nowadays and i get uptiered to 6.0 because of Tiger Is or 6.7 because of king tigers.
Not that i struggle (unless its sweden against king tigers) but i got like 4 full downtiers against 4.7 and fumbled 3 of them.

can you suggest a play style on 8.0 on all major nations?

I’ve mostly stayed out of this BR so far because I’m just not good enough.
Generally speaking, I make sure to stay alive as long as possible but also not to play too defensively so that I’m useless.
I think others can give you better tips than I can. Good luck anyway.
Some BR lineups may be more susceptible to uptiers due to conditions such as time, server, popularity of the BR lineups above or below them, and so on. For example, if you are playing a GRB 3.7 lineup, there is a good possibility that you will be dragged to GRB 4.7 one day and almost completely downtier the next. Certain nation combinations tend to yield full uptiers or downtiers as well; I am not sure how it works, but this is a pattern that happens to me rather frequently.

If you play US 5.7, an uptier is almost guaranteed. But I think it’s a good opportunity to learn a lot. The Tigers II in particular can be a tough nut to crack if you come up against two or three at the same time.
My problem is actually that I tend to play worse when I get a full downtier … for whatever reason!!!

I usually struggle against king tigers only on city maps, because i cant flank them in shermans or snipe them from hulldown using 36B2 and heatfs.
It sure does help most of the time they are blind as bats.
But king tiger pushing me down the street? Its faster to just J out lmao.

I play the same way! I think it’s because I either overestimate my opponents or have way more spawns in an uptier to mess around with. In a downtier I’ll only get 2 or 3 spawns if I’m unlucky, but I think I can get 4 maybe 5 in an uptier with similar luck. Most of my lineups have like 8 vehicles for this very reason.

I usually ride with a standard 5-slot lineup because I’m too stingy to pay GE for more slots.
But I usually only need 1-2 tanks anyway. But now I know at least when I see your nickname that I have a worthy opponent who can send more than one tank against me.

I kept track for a while some time ago… must have been ~ 100 battles total.
I was uptiered about 90% of the time, and a large portion (50%-60%) was a full BR.
Was never close to getting the 25% full downtier I should have expected.
Makes me think there are hidden factors like Battle-pass or owning premium vehicles that give some ppl advantages in that aspect.
I’ve gotten used to being the underdog since it happens so often.

if you’re in a 9.0, you can be in a:
8.0-9.0
8.3-9.3
8.7-9.7
9.0-10.0
It is depending on how you define an uptier/downtier.
I’ve always thought of it as full uptier/partial uptier/partial downtier/full downtier. In a full uptier, you are facing vehicles 1.0 BR above yours, and a full downtier is 1.0 BR below yours with partial uptiers/downtiers being a .3 or .7 difference.

I tracked that too and I got more like 75%.
Unless your at top tier your not getting 95% full uptiers. Secondly if your uptiered only 3 people on each team are top tier and 3 are bottom tier.
Some b. R do get more up tiers then others and sometimes it just depends on who’s online. The game tries to match you with your br but as you may be aware not every nation has the same number of vehicles or even good vehicles at the same br as others. This is important because if your playing a low population br you will be often placed in a more popular br near you. Eg. Germany has a very strong player base playing 6.7 and other nations have less vehicles and players at 6.7. 5.7 is on the other hand a popular br across many nations so the 6.7 Germans tend to get more down tiers then up tiers.
It’s comes down to the br you have vs enemy br popularity and the players on at the time.

Ha, if only! Would actually bother finishing spading king tigers.
Can try 10.7 bro a lot of downtiers lol only two out of ten matches I got uptiered to 11.7, the rest are facing 9.7 or 10.0s. But damn bro I only got the T-90A and 2S6 there and T-90A kinda sucks for me aka skill issues and I rather use the 292 and OHKO everyone doesn’t matter if they are Leopard 2A7.
