Was thinking about radars, I understand how notching works to defeat pulse doppler since its filtering out velocities, but why does notching defeat a regular search radar when it is just looking for return signals (Or am I wrong here)? I know modern missiles drop their radar tracking and go into inertial guidance, or try to get info from data link, but why not just drop the PD filter if the target is at altitude and ground interference isn’t an issue?
Because chaff look like a bigger object on the radar so the radar things the chaff is the plane but it isn’t
Ya but what if you don’t chaff? I’ve had plenty of success defeating fox 3 without it at longer ranges just notching and changing altitude without using any chaff, usually at really high altitude as well.
Idk more might be a bug might be a feature
I think TWS’s giving wrong info to the fox 3 during mid flight when flying at notch angle. Or the PD mode struggling keep the lock like some velocity search, PD HDN search does
Idk much about radars so if im wrong. pls correct me
I feel like i remember a tech mod saying that once the missile pitbulls, it only uses the internal radar.
I think what you are talking about is when you maintain a non PD lock but the missile still gets notched because it has a PD seeker
Regular SRC radars are broken. You can see this in naval mode with 70s-90s radars (SRC?) that struggle to lock onto bombers which are big targets.
If you’re flying perpendicularly to the missile you’re forcing it to turn and quickly bleeding off its energy. It could be that its seeker can still see you, it’s just that the missile has no energy left to hit you.
