I’ve been told there’s way more AI targets on Air Simulator than there is on Air Realistic. Is it true?
And if so, are they the same, or is there more variety?
in ARB, you mostly have pillboxes, anti-tank guns and SPAAs, in trenches down the map. Some exception here and there, but its mostly the same across all maps.
in ASB, you dont.
You have a number of AI objectives that can spawn
Ground
-
The first are convoys, a line of vehicles, ranging from MBTs and light tanks, to trucks and SPAAGs. These travel between 2 points. These should be an interesting objective to attack, but the SPAAGs are stupidly OP and will kill you the instant you enter 3-5km.
-
If the convoy reaches its destination, it will spawn a battlefield. This consists of 20? or so vehicles, ranging in MBTs, to anti-tank guns for both teams “shooting” at each other (I dont think they can actually kill each other though). They are also protected by 4-5 SPAAGs, not quite as OP as the convoy ones, but still quite dangerous. Helping “win” the battlefield (i.e, killing all the enemy vehicles) advances your sides “map control” (doesnt really do anything) and where the frontline is, so eventually you can have battlefields right near the other teams AFs. These are really dull objectives though, because the AI dont move, meaning if you have a lot of GPS weapons, like GBU-39s, you can wipe them out fast.
Naval
Not all maps have naval
-
The first is a naval convoy, made up of a half dozen or so tankers and a few escort ships, these travel from the map edge to a point quite slowly, I dont think anything really happens if they make it to where they are going, except lost tickets. These should be hard to deal with, but if you wait a little while, the escorts will leave beind the tankers and then they are easy to kill. Even the escorts will spread out and then its just a matter of taking them out one at a time rather than 2-3 close together.
-
2-3 destroyers will spawn in and head towrads a port. Again, dont really know what the consequence is for them getting there, if there even is one, but the objective is just to sink them, not really that hard
-
Sink the enemy carrier, it will respawn if sunk, though you can no longer repair on it after its been sunk for the first time
There is also multiple Airfields that are modular with SPAA defending them, not sure if that really counts in your definition, but they are an extra target to attack besides the default bases which do spawn still
Air
-
The first is a wave of strike aircraft, these fly low, go “bomb” a target and then head home, these can attack naval convoys as well, where they just sort of get stuck flying around in circles.
-
The second is a wave of bombers that will fly to a target “bomb it” and then return home. These tend to fly a little higher
Both have a basic escort, both are made up of about 9 aircraft + 2 escorts, little consequence for ignoring them other than minor ticket loss and both just randomly crash into the ground sometimes (especially on hilly maps)
- is a recon plane, that flys high (10k ish ft) and does laps of the map for a little while before leaving. It is usually an F-86 Sabre at higher BRs that is flying close to Mach 1 and is really annoying to catch in anything subsonic, a chore to locate in anything without a half decent radar and boring to deal with in anything that has both
What vehicles make up the air and ground objectives change based upon BR range. cant give you specifics for each though and they did finally update it a little bit recently, use to be Korean war jets at top tier, it was really dumb.
But despite this, the gamemode is really stale and none of these objectives are actually that interesting to deal with, they range from boring and monotenous to just annoying. The gamemode needs a total PvE overhaul
Thank you so, so, so much
You have no idea how much this information means to me
No, RB have more Ai targets.
I would rather face ai in rb than sim tho.
