The BTR 80A sits at a BR of 7.3, with some dookie belts. it’s maximum penetration belt is up to 87mm, and thats APDS. It has no stabilizer, its massive, and its turret traverse is horrible. You dont even start with the APDS belt, which makes it even worse, and horrible speed.
How are we supposed to work with this?
“Hide, flank, target light tanks.”
Hide? That thing is the size of a house, literally nicknamed the house on wheels. Flank? OK, if you get lucky and get a flank with that horrible mobility. Target light tanks? great! Works! But i could do the same with literally anything else.
How do we work with this? lower it to like 6.3 or smth and yeah MAYBE I’d play it, but I’d hate to see it be mixed with WW2 vehicles. At this point, strap a ATGM launcher on it, call it a BTR 90, boom, goes to 7.7. The wiesiel 1a4 is same BR but is smaller, higher fire rate, has thermals, and very ratty, mauneruvable.
At this point the BTR is a disgrace, if anyone could tell me how to play that… house it’d be appreciated.
The BTR-90 does not belong at 7.7. The BTR-90 is a BMP-2 turret (30mm 2A42) that can be fitted with a Kornet. Even if it only gets 9M113, its still OP at 7.7
The APDS has insane damage (from times when I’ve been killed by it) and the mobility is great. You can get to place before everyone else. Play it like a bigger fox. Plus, the Wiesel 1A4 is the worse 20mm rat. The 20mm cant pen a lot of stuff, even from the sides
It probably works better at higher brs, 7.x is full of super heavy tanks which makes it kinda weird spot to be in. I havent played it but ive played the weasel alot, and it actually performs a lot better at higher ranks due to heavies being phased out.
These are also first spawn vics you want to get into posistions on a virgin map, secondth spawns are way more risky to flank.
If we get a version with thermals, and better ammo at a higher br it will probably be pretty decent.
take advantage of the speed and rush flanks. Unlike fox you’re not louder than all the tanks on the map for some reason so its easier to sneak up on people if you know maps. if you cant kill side on shoot the guns out and track them and then run away
Its pretty useless at its BR, so just suffer.
Skill issue?
Fast vehicle that’s quieter compared to the Fox because Gaijin is stupid.
Yes, the maps are dogwater and flanking can be difficult but the speed helps you get to the meta spots quicker than most. It has enough pen to bully other light tanks, many tank destroyers and it can also tackle low flying aircraft.
Play it like it is IS 6 since it has same armor.
Its too big to be a rat tbh.
Also the Wiesel is probably better due to it being faster, more nimble, and like 10 times smaller. If you can’t pen something, you don’t need to engage it. In other situations you can run away while the BTR takes ages to accelerate.
I had a lot of fun with it. It absolutely demolishes other light vehicles instantly and its very fast once you have mods. You just need to always be aware you can’t engage heavily armored tanks. You should be sticking with teammates directly and not separating from them. You support them and they support you when heavy tanks arrive.
You won’t do well with the BTR for a long time because it’s too slow at the start and as you said, it can’t aim quickly enough. It took me a while to level up with BTR. Basically I sui rush the enemy over and over until I’ve got the upgrades (premium helps). You can try to shoot the enemy’s tracks. Don’t play timidly, this is a vehicle for extreme risk takers, which is why I love it! I either die and accomplish nothing, or I expose the enemy’s flank and do heaps of damage, maybe steal a capture point. Your biggest advantage is marking enemies for ez points so don’t forget to scout, but also don’t hide the whole game otherwise you won’t gain anything.
Still better than the Luchs
