I have got recently a good gaming PC and maxed nearly all of the settings. Problem I am having is, Effects Resolution and Particle Density punishes higher spec PC owners compared to lower ones. Even a plane without bomb load crash emits a smoke screen for nexy 8-10 seconds.
I used to own bad PC so I know how this looks in minimum settings. Isn’t there a way to level playing field?
Note: For the cynical people, I earned that money to buy PC. You don’t have to sneer at me for wanting balance between players.

Ragebait, just turn down particle density. There is a guide to have competitive settings while still having your game look good.
Plenty of people play on max settings and are still really good at the game

You’re not really punished if you can just lower the particle density.

It’s a pretty common misunderstanding among people in general that higher numbers will always equate to better performance.
What you most likely need is to find the right settings for you and your PC to get the best picture and be able to play at your peak level by doing so.
I personally turn both of those setting all the way down, because on my rig, the difference between off, on or set in the middle . . I honestly see very little difference.
In such cases I turn the stuff down/off to be less taxing on my gpu/system.
I still get a great picture and I do not max out hardly anything, a few, but not that many.
Best part about our new graphics UI is many/most things so you a good example at what you will see making adjustments to each setting.
I would also recommend trying to adjust things in test drive if possible.
Then play some matches and see how things go.
Many play on movie settings, but I was told this is really just for watching replays/recording and such . . . not for game play. I have never just selected medium or max settings, I have always tinkered and tailored my settings to suit me, my system and play style.
I like it to look good, but I also don’t want to be put at a disadvantage playing.
Just have to find your own “sweet spot”, but don’t get over excited or mad about it . . . you will find your way to it
If you like, pm me and I can show you what I do . . .
ONE guy’s stuff and ONE guy’s setting . . .
not THE way, but it is A way . . you can take it from there
p. s. If you use Nvidia and have their GeForce Experience or Nvidia App
Do yourself a HUGE favor and find in the settings where it says Optimize games/new games and set that to off or no . . you don’t want that.
All it does is max EVERY setting in each game and it does not give you a
good picture or performance . . . this was my first clue that the highest possible number does not mean the best picture/performance

I am punished if I want to see realistic smokes. Lower setting enjoyers are rewarded.
If you have an nVidia card, use the nvidia app to customize and optimize the game settings.
If you go custom, you get a slider and can tweak it down.
I usually go for anything that removes chromatic aberation, and lowers the x16 filter to anything lower, as well as the vsync.

I think you misread my point. I am not complaining about highest smoke setting looking bad. I am complaining that if I max out those, I get realistic graphics and lower visibility as expected. But you can litreally make game easier by reducing those settings.
Who’s punished for taking maximum advantages from the game can legally allow based on the Terms of Service? You can have the top notch of PC Gaming, if you want to use lower graphic settings to have better performance in competitive environment is up to you. No one was ever punished by doing that, the game just looks ugly and it’s subjective if you want or not.

When I switch from my Steam PC to my main PC, I’m getting prompted constantly to rebenchmark and set my graphics settings lol.
This really makes a difference for me. I could see better performance that way instead of manually adjusting things in game.

oh well, it has always been that way to a degree. Gaijin has always done a good job “optimizing” the game so it can be played on a wide variety of systems. Giving more players a chance to enjoy the game.
Albeit, that has also been a point of contention for many players with the ULQ thing in ground battles and all that sorta thing.
I have always tried to make the game look as good as possible and still be able to see stuff well enough to play/compete . . . it is a balancing thing for each player.
I would suggest that you try not to worry about what others are doing too much, I mean you have no control, so why worry about it, yeah?
Anyway, good luck, I hope you find the middle ground that works for you
Reject competitive video settings, embrace beautiful graphics.

Graphic settings or sound settings should not give you big advantage in any competitive game, but we in 2025 have: disableable grass, disableable ground top layer, effects of explosions and smokes could be tune down to almost non existent state, sound of your own engine could be lowered and other players increased(instead of just one one volume of effects setting). This is inappropriate for completive multiplayer game.

This is how I always play. I don’t like playing on ULQ/Low settings since I feel like cheating when having a High FPS, easy spotting, and quick reaction. Yes, we can perform a lot better at low settings due to this. But, I love playing the game at its highest quality cinematic view even though it hides my enemies easier and miss targets easier, decreasing my performance.

You are not punished, its just a trade off that we all know many games have. Low settings for better player performance vs Highest Quality for not so great player performance but an awesome view. Just tweak it to where you’re particle density doesn’t annoy you or just learn to deal with it.

Very visible even when he doesn’t fire. Could’ve reacted much quicker.
Shadow hid him well enough that I didn’t see him quick enough till he fired at me.
Still got him, but there is a huge difference in gameplay performance.
repeat after me:
ULQ for ground
as high as you can for air
