As we know, the countermeasures button in planes can be pressed for quite some time to dump its content, that’s how we get something like “angel wing” silhouette from AC-130 flare dump, or flare arch that USAF and USN fighters showcased during airshow. with how WT CM button works, it ejects countermeasures in a singular press manner that require user to repeatedly tap countermeasures release button in rapid succession.

Flare Arch (its a video so it’s a bit of a goof but you get the idea)

With this “hold to dump” feature, user doesn’t have to tire their hands smashing countermeasures release button anymore, they can instead just hold the button to release countermeasures as they see fit.

This could be implemented as settings under “Air Battle” or on the battle start menu where in both area you can activate this mode, chooses the countermeasures release interval like you do in “periodic countermeasure release”, and the amount of countermeasures released in that release interval. Even more radical option would be to remove “periodic countermeasure release” option instead and replace it with “hold to release” option.

I think it’s time for this game to treat countermeasures as something more than just goof and gaff that is used to defeat dinky 9J and make it an actual defensive option as Fox-3 missile gained more prevalence in this game direction for the future. With this feature release too I think we can finally see missile that is not made with IRCCM gets it’s flare resistance restored to it’s real life performance.
