HMS Renown

Yes, i play every day

Now she revealed on datamine, though much worse than what we expected.

No 6 crh APC, no 4.5 HE-VT, but what is worst is it’s waterline is shallow so 15 inch magazine is directly below the waterline, which makes HMS Renown unavailable to brawl in close range, what ships having inaccurate 15 inch guns in War Thunder definitely has to.

Yeah… It’s really sad to see yet another great ship ruined by Gaijin’s lazyness… I honestly didn’t even expect them to give her correct main gun shells, but having no VT on the secondaries really sucks and it’s unfair compared to Alaska and Nevada. And then there’s the too shallow draft…

And then they dare to put her at 7.0!

At the very least her BR needs to be lowered to 6.7 and the draft fixed, or just lowered to 6.3 in the current state, or I might as well give up my plans to pay GE for her… I suspect others would make similar choices…

No HE-VT is gunna make her secondaries useless vs air targets. Considering this is suppose to be a 1944 version, that is kinda stupid.

Yep Renown needs some major work if they want to release it at 7.0 - it’s weird that it’s in such an unfinished state, given it’s been in the files for so long!

  • Main gun shells are wrong - they need 6crh shells, as well as HE
  • Secondaries are also wrong - they’re missing VT, and have the reload of the destroyer version (20rpm), rather than their actual 12rpm - which presumably means they were just copied over
  • The speed seems wrong too - I’m getting a bit under 31kts fully upgraded, whereas most places I’ve seen give somewhere between 31 and 32 post-refit
  • This one I’m least familiar with so it may be right - but the armour scheme seems very odd compared to other ships, especially the front tower, which seems way too thin

Given none of this implies that they put any work into getting this right whatsoever (aisde from paying someone else to make a lovely visual model), I’d assume there will be other problems too…

Hopefully Gaijin plan on either dropping the br substantially or actually finishing the ship before release - or it’ll be another disappointing Brit vehicle that could have been good if they’d just bothered to get one of their paid ‘Historical Consultants’ to spend half an hour reading a book…

That’s just British philosophy post-Nelson class. And you didn’t mention the draft, which is the worst thing about her rn.

Its a non-TT british addition. Just go look at the FRS1, still unfinished and that was added december last year. Not uncommon at all. But yeah, real shame its got so much wrong

Armor seems correct as far as I can see. If there’s any errors in the armor, that kind of stuff tends to get fixed pretty soon after people like Mag and HK have reported them. Same goes for RoF errors on the secondaries and the speed.

But they almost never fix the draft, and the shells selections are balance elements so it will be hard to make them change their mind about that as well.

Complaining as loud as we can is the best we can do for now. And even if she’s all fixed, she’s still only 6.7 worthy at best.

I wasn’t aware of the issue with the draft - what would the correct draft for Renown be then?

Just glancing at pictures of the ship during the war it doesn’t look obviously wrong in-game - both seem to have the waterline just a few ft below the top of the anti-torpedo bulge - but again, I may well be wrong/misunderstanding!

Is it really weird though? GJN always ruin british vehicles. Tornado GR.1 gets gimped payload options for precision weapons… F.3 took months to get a functioning radar… F-4J(OKE) is the worst rank 7 air premium for it’s BR…The entire Chally 2 series having 60 tons of wet toilet paper as protection…

Sure but are you sure in every scenario you were shot equal amount of times, exposing yourself equal amount of time, playing on similar maps? I can play 20+ battles and be shot few times by 7.0 stuff and I can play 20 more and be under constant fire from multiple targets. However when you are shooting somebody, you continue fire until it is dead. Also you watch your squadmates fire and they tell you how long it took them. And hood survives much less time on average than majority of 7.0 ships. So nice brag but pretty pointless.

yeah on 7.0 with 100mm armor on front magazine this beauty is DoA. I hope it is not final BR, but who knows.

Her speed is actually too high. She only reached 29.9 kts in 1939, and was further reduced with additional upgrades during the war.

proof?

It gives me hope that Gaijin are gonna continue with working on naval so that i might become more popular and better. A japanese cruiser would have made me more excited though ;)

The correct draft would be at the line between the black and grey areas of the ship’s external model in-game. It’s hard to determine this from period photos, as we don’t know how loaded that ship was at that moment, or if she’s near a river estuary(there are rivers near many ports IRL) that would affect the salinity of the seawater and therefore affect the overall bouncy of the ship.

You need to look at official plans and drawings for information on draft, but Gaijin’s external models are usually very correct in this. It’s just real laziness on their coders’ part.

At this point I have one question. Do you repair constantly, when even some minor components broekn? Thats the only way Hood can be survive much less than majority of 7.0 ships, where plenty of ships have danger of shell room explosion, and for Alaska has very high chance of bein one-turn kill by any round that has fuze delay higher than 0.03 seconds.

Cool story.
Now show us sources that meet GJN’s criteria, and then show us further sources which prove the 1939 speed was the fastest it ever was.
