High Caliber Projects Discussion and Implementation

obviously the 1.5mm will make a massive difference

From where the 860mm come from? Is people using this ?

Old estimations, can’t remember.
Have anything better?

Nop. I just happens to see this today. gustiiz31 en X: “https://t.co/ABGukYWRvP” / X

IMO its make sense. Some random guy posted that he has a replica of the XM964 and he said this “I’m 5’7” and own an actual model of the Xm964 140mm Sabot for the XM291. It’s at my chin.”

Yes, they’re quite large. I’m hoping to see both the Object 195 and CATTB in game.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything with penetration, is this the formula Gaijin uses?
I’d like to get the CATTBs penetration figured out so I can display it, I also think the Grifel is off and the Swiss one.

Yes, its the same L-O Gaijin uses. Its pretty much on par (well, some 20mm below its penetration) with Gustiiz current reconstruction of Grifel though the latter may have some further changes in the coming days I hear.

Kinda weird. Total assembled XM964 length is 1.48 meters.

That’s considerably smaller if that’s true.

Oh wow there you go.

Its not off by much. Hope he post the pic of him and the thing.

All three interations of the XM964 APFSDS-T used DU for their penetrators.

According to old Benét Laboratories documents, they tested penetrators of different weights, ranging from 4.8 kg to 10.8 kg.

As for the system achived penetration, according to FUTURE TANK MAIN ARMAMENT (FTMA) - General Dynamics, Land System Division, the XM291 system demonstrated the best FTMA penetration compared to other FTMA 140mm systems.

Spoiler

After increasing the XM291 system maximum pressure, the 140mm muzzle energy was increased to 24.1 MJ.

There’s also the KEM document stating the following: The initial velocity of a similar penetrator fired by USA armament is believed to be approximately 1750 ms and it will penetrate almost 1m into RHA. The stated penetration is the flat penetration of the round.

In my opinion, Benét Laboratories opted for a 10.8 kg penetrator for the final iteration of the XM964, in addition to the increased system pressure, resulting in the best FTMA performance.

Of course but it shouldn´t be reaching the chin of someone who is 1.7m tall.

Yeah if what you posted is correct it would be 4’9 feet tall fully assembled.

Though there is a hard limit of 1.5m of length for fully assembled rounds. The measurements I estimated where on the basis of a projectile that takes full advantage of the volume available in the forward section of the round.
XM964

This illustration is more accurate, 58.31 in. overall length.

Spoiler

One of the requirements of the XM964 round is that for one front cartridge component, two rear components must be stored in the same location in the hull storage area (the rear component must be no more than half the size of the front component of the cartridge).

uhh

58.31 in is 1481mm
think you converted to cm instead

so the 870mm dart length feels about right
