So, Gustiiz made models of XM964 and Grifel. Needless to say, this isn´t a source per se nor its guaranteed to be accurate to the real things, can be subject to changes going forward.
Object 172MN (1973-1975) and Object 172-3M (1976) with 130mm rifled gun. (Sadly no pictures)
According to old Benét Laboratories documents, they tested penetrators of different weights, ranging from 4.8 kg to 10.8 kg.
For reference, we have calculated using a calculation tool assuming the diameter of the penetrator is 30mm.
The 4.8kg prototype is 365mm long and has a penetration force of 436mm, while the 10.8kg prototype is 825mm long and has a penetration force of 807mm.
In appearance, the 4.8kg prototype has an L/D ratio of 12, making it closer to the 120mm DM13, while the 10.8kg prototype has an L/D ratio of 27.5, making it closer to the 120mm DM43. Also, when implemented in the game, the 4.8kg prototype will be treated as the starting equipment that can be used without modification, while the 10.8kg prototype will be treated as equipment that can be used after modification.
Soviet 135mm gun?
Anybody can shed some light here?
Back in the 80s, NATO intell assesed the Future Soviet Tank (FST-2) would be using a 135mm main gun. The actual tank Soviets had in development at the time was the Object 477 (later superceded post Soviet breakup by projects that ended up in Object 195), which had a 152mm gun instead.
Looking at this graph, I’m slightly confused. Is the graph saying that M829 should be able to penetrate 500+ mm of armor at an angle of 60° and at a range of 2000m?
In-game it achieves 514mm of penetration under those criteria.
Keep in mind that sources almost always refer to line-of-sight penetration @ 60°.
Updated models by Gustiiz with all known 152mm tank ammunition developed by USSR and Russia. Note how different the older APFSDS for 2A73 is compared to Grifel-1/2
Absolutely insanity, I’m guessing the bottom one is the ammo piece Gaijin modeled the 292s APFSDS
Yes
Both Grifel and XM-964 have penetrators circa 850mm long. While we know Grifel fires at 1980 m/s and even at 2km its still 1900 m/s, we don’t have info on the American round MV.
1980m/s MV and 1900m/s at 2km reffers to the projectile used by 2A73/LP-83, i doubt grifel’s velocity is this high.
About XM964 though, there is data suggesting a velocity between 1650 and 1900m/s

Most sources suggest Grifel hits those velocities.
what sources are you reffering to
If you are talking about the infamous blue table of prospective APFSDS, then it shouldn’t be taken as solid evidence, because that table was done by a student IIRC.
There is pretty much no official information regarding these 152mm APFSDS rounds. These numbers are just speculations.
I haven’t seen anything lower than 1980 m/s.
There was something around 1780m/s which was a older iteration of the projectile or a different propellant charge used during early feasibility studies.
Could be that most of it is speculative.
The 1780m/s comes from the table hes talking about
