As with all atgm vehicles, it is great to play it conservatively. Stay away from the frontline, and poke your launcher just above, or out from behind cover and shoot at targets from range. I’m not sure what the speed is on the missile the Mephisto is, but assuming it is at marder level at least, you should be fine doing this
Only take it on big open maps. find cover where only the ATGMs poke out. Overall its not very good. HOT-2s aren’t very fast but you don’t get the immediate ATGM drop which is nice.
It’s a standard late ATGM vehicle. It’s playstyle is utterly reliant on finding a position where you can poke out the launcher while hiding your hull, and preferably remain unseen until your missile hits the enemy.
ATGM carriers kinda fall out of the meta (if they were even in it) at this tier. The problem is that everything an ATGM can do, a standard tank with an LRF can do better. Sure, you can hide almost your entire tank while guiding in the missile, but you have to stay exposed the entire time you guide the missile in, meanwhile the enemy tank has more than enough time to react to it at any useful range.
Plus, and this is an issue I haven’t seen many people point out, the MEPHISTO’s huge ATGM launcher make it exceptionally vulnerable to being hit in return. Any chemical effect shell that hits it will ammo rack the vehicle, and that’s not remotely hard to do given that almost everything you fight at your own tier will have an LRF.
It’s still probably worth bringing with you in a lineup for the handful of maps where it works well on (And France’s 8.7 lineup isn’t exactly huge).
The vehicle’s mobility is one of the best of all tanks. You can use this to get to a good sniping position extremely early in the match, when the enemy does not expect it. The reaction time is actually good - although the vehicle cannot fire while moving, its stabiliser allows it to open fire immediately after stopping. It’s much better compared to tanks like AMX-30. This stabiliser also allows you to dodge enemy shots by moving while guiding the ATGM, although this requires significant skill. The vehicle’s horizontal traverse speed is also very fast, it is almost double that of the equivalent AFT09.
It is actually one of the best vehicles at the battle rating of 8.7. I have a significantly higher KDR in the MEPHISTO compared to my average. The trick is to actively maneuver and use good positioning. It’s best used in long-range maps due to the inability to fire while moving. At long range, the use of your depression angle to hide everything but the ATGM launcher itself, combined with movement while firing, makes the MEPHISTO very hard to hit. In addition, you should consider that the MEPHISTO has better survivability with the side of the tank facing the enemy.
Keep in mind that he has the weapon and sights quite high above the vehicle, and even if they can shoot you with it, you can always stay hidden and raise the weapon when you shoot and hide again.
I’m using the British Striker, and it’s a real pain. Its missiles are very slow, you have to bring the entire tank out. You can’t shoot enemies up close since the tubes point upwards. And all this when most maps are CQC, where the most important thing is to shoot quickly and hide.
Every ATGM vehicle is horrible in this game, don’t waste your time. Only on certain case on certain map with rush can you exploit… like that Chinese one because the turret is immune to damage.
