The Swedish Strf 9040C sits at BR 10.3. It has a 170mm pen and can fire 24 rounds before it has to go on a LONG reload and it can fire 2 more rounds. Meanwhile the 2S38 sits at the same BR, gets 224mm pen and can hold the LM untill it depletes all of its 148 rounds. In addition to that it also gets the ability to lock onto air targets…
How is this balanced? I’m not saying the 2S38 is OP or the Strf 9040C is bad, i’m just wondering why they are the same BR?
Looking at kills per death and kills per spawn both the 9040C versions are performing better than the 2S38. The 2S38 isn’t as great as many make it out to be.
In my personal experience the gun depression is kind of bad for a vehicle that is relatively clumsy and clunky at the same time.
Edit:
Since i keep getting replies to this post that haven’t read further in the thread i will quote my explanation here as well:
These stats can be very misleading since someone with 0 xp in the game can just buy the 2S38 and start playing. Getting to the 9040 requires a substantial amount of ingame time so the people playing these tanks know atleast the basics of the game and where to shoot tanks.
The 2S38 also comes spaded while everyone who first gets the 9040C versions have to stock grind them for 100+ matches before they are spaded.
and if the 2S38 is played by a low level account their crew will also be low level and performs badly while the cv9040 player likely has leveled their crew for a while before they get the vehicle.
Stats don’t tell you everything, being a premium the 2S38 probably has more people new to the game playing it, a less skilled Playerbase will make a vehicle seem worse than it is.
I see what you are saying. But what would be your explanation for why the 9040’s in stats perform better? The 9040’s have worse ammo, can only fire for a very short period before they run out of ammo and miss alot of features the 2S38 has. I own all 3 and the 2S38 feels like i’m cheating compared to when i’m driving the 9040 and i really have to think when i’m playing them.
Looking at my dong. The 2S38 is a premium vehicle who gets bought by beginners thus making the stats drop significantly. From what they actually are. Expecially since Russia is the most played nation making the stats highly inflated(in warzone if everyone is using a certain gun usually means is meta , and everyone plays the meta always in every game )
Russian bias as always
I don’t think it’s that simple.
Even when i’ve looked at single users they tend to do badly in the 2S38 when they do better in other vehicles of similar BR. So i think there is more to it than just looking at paper stats.
I sadly don’t have any insight into exactly how balance is handled but i can see if i can find any official post about it.
Edit:
Here is an official post with a description of how they try to balance vehicles:
While your amounts of battles are relatively low in many of the light tanks of that BR range you do indeed seem to do better in the 2S38. I’m not 100% but i think it’s the only exception i’ve personally seen. My personal experience is however anecdotal so doesn’t really mean anything.
No offense, but players from one of these countries just aren’t as good in general:
Spoiler
Thus, even discounting the inherent statistical differences between premium and researchable vehicles, a direct comparison of their K/D ratios is somewhat unreasonable.
Conjecture. You have to also think of the vehicles they face. If two identical vehicles on average face different opponents with different performing vehicles then those identical vehicles will also end up with different stats.
