Helicopter research costs, how do we fix them?

Yap yappity yap:

Currently nobody likes researching helicopters, whereas most of them are obsolete until you’ve researched a certain ammunition.
How do we fix this, and what are my proposals?

Problems:

Each helicopter, from rank VI and up until rank VII, costs ATLEAST 360K RP, whereas rank VII helicopters cost 400K RP outright.
After the long and painful grind actually RECIEVING these helicopters, then you have to research its modifications, before SOME helicopters are actually usable.

Taking for example the rank VI BR 9.7 RU MI-24P (Russia because its the most popular nation), costs 370K RP to research, whereas a rank VI BR 9.7 BMD-4M2 costs a WHOLE 150K RP less to research.

Now taking into account modifications, it is an extra 288,600 RP to spade, 42,600 RP to just recieve your first laser guided ammunition with actual range (Assuming you go the quickest way).
The VI BR 9.7 BMD-4M2 takes 186,300 RP to spade out, a WHOLE 102,300 RP less, despite you being able to acquire kills easier, and getting more rewards for it.

With all of this, the research difference between a rank VI BR 9.7 Light tank and a rank VI BR 9.7 Helicopter comes to a total of 252,300 RP.

The current helicopter PvE is very bad, mentally and objectively.

Ways to fix this (VEHICLE AND MODIFICATION SPECIFIC):

Helicopters

  • Easiest and most proposed suggestion, simply lower the overall research cost of helicopters proportionate to their BR.

  • Helicopters gain a giant research boost if the vehicle used to research a helicopter is a helicopter itself.

  • More playable and effective helicopter gamemode

  • Thats literally it.

Modifications:

  • Helicopters begin limited with laser guided ammunition and modifications such as HIRSS, Countermeasures, and IRCM meaning they do NOT need to be researched.

  • Helicopter modifications are cheaper, literally.

  • More playable and effective helicopter gamemode.

  • and this is it again, its very simple.

Why this should happen:

Currently very few people research helicopters, as they are a nuisance and a waste of your time until you’ve researched the entire ground tech tree, because of:

  • Insanely expensive helicopters/modifications making it so by the time you get laser guided ammunition you are already ahead of the helicopters era and you will need a new one to compete with the newer SPAA.

It would encourage more players to research them and they wouldnt have such a livid reputation for their grind.

Should this happen and what do you think?

Arguments such as “helicopters are way too op they shouldnt be so cheap” is a different matter of balancing, this is about QOL.

I think the only realistic solution is to add a way for helis to play seperate from GRB that actually works.

Heli PvE doesnt. It sucks. (and that was before FnF)

Like adding helis to Air Sim and/or to a future Air RB EC gamemode. That way they can be grinded in an alternative way.

In the meantime yeah, just reducing the costs so they werent based upon aircraft mod costs would be a good start too and just like we’ve had more than a few times for aircraft, a review of stock loadout options probably wouldnt go amiss either

I like this, I haven’t thought of actually improving the heli gamemode and moreso went straight for the helicopters themselves, I will add it to the post.

I was honestly surprised when I first looked at the rp cost for these, it’s absurdly high in respect of their capabilities and initial restrictions on guided weapons as high as 8.7, which I find to be absurd when looking at the kinds of vehicles one may find and the SAMs which you could face. I think it’s another point of contention in favor of the argument of adding variable brs based on equipped vehicle modifications (I’m talking about armaments and ammunition mostly).

How about coastal…?

its insane, its expected for you to rush in STOCK with standard dumb rockets and try get laser guided weapons if you arent playing heli PvE

Or maybe make the heli PvE more enjoyable and engaging. The day that Gaijin will lower the RP requirements will be a cold day in hell, not happening. If you treat completing the helicopter subtree of a nation the same way as completing the aircraft or ground subtree then you realise that the RP requirement is not that high at all. Numerous changes must be made to the heli PvE to make it a viable method of grinding, for starters the RP reward must be like doubled or tripled, an average player in a non premium heli will probably get in the ball park of 10-15k RP for a single game. A game lasts anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes, this equates to a single 400k top tier heli taking maybe even 25 in-match hours to research. There are too many players and not enough objectives, which leads to some players (especially these in low-rank helicopters) completly abandoning the game from the inability to gather any points.
