Heli/APC Infantry Insertion

I suggested something similar (post hasn’t been approved yet) but not RTS styled. Aces High II and III had a system where you landed paratroopers or a squad from a half-track to capture a base after bombing 80% of the connected town. I like the overall idea.

Absolutely need infantry. Just as air has ground objectives which you can eliminate for small amounts of RP and SL. I don’t understand how people could disagree with at least some sort of addition of infantry when it’s just ground’s version of the air ground targets. Don’t care how it’s implemented, as long as we get them. I like the idea of mowing them down for small rewards with a machine gun on top of your tank.

You really start to anthropomorphize the tanks don’t you when you can’t see them side to side with a human. I think this is kind of a bad thing. The game unintentionally starts feeling more like a cars movie, especially when everyone is putting eyes on them nowadays. I realised just how big the tanks were with the anniversary human examination feature and it made me realise them as the steel beasts they are.

My only worry is that Gaijin wants to keep the game PG, you see this a lot with modern companies that even make explicit games. +1

They really should be added to supplement vehicle gameplay. Infantry could be used to increase the usefulness of vehicles like IFVs, APCs, and Helicopters. There should be more to ground RB than just spawn killing and getting destroyed by CAS. Infantry can take, hold, and defend positions, assist players with combat, or scout enemies for the team. It would make ground RB so much more engaging. Especially on urban maps. And the best thing is, you wouldn’t have to use them. It would be up to the player to spawn with them. Better than just being CAS and tank food.

Infantry is already in the game, it’s just not standardly used. Killing infantry in the game dont have to be necessarily a bloody mess. There can only be a fall to the ground animation as it is now so I don’t see a problem with PG.

I said the exact same thing in another thread. All they need is updated pathfinding, newer animations, and new skins.

Exactly. And suitable weapons for infantry.

I think this is a very bad idea, and not fit for War Thunder whatsoever. It’s not like there is anything wrong with your suggestion, but it just does not have a place in today’s gameplay. Maybe this can be applied if Gaijin ever develops an Enlisted type of game set inbetween cold war to modern time.

RTS-elements would be a welcome change of pace, but would be too much of a departure from War Thunder proper.

Please don’t forget that Gaijin is not a hobbyist’s indie company. They’re a large business. If WT added infantry, Enlisted’s playerbase would dwindle.
People already play helicopters, because they’re more or less mandatory in a proper GRB line-up.
As such, there is no reason to make playing helicopters more enticing with a complicated game mechanic that will take months of developing & playtesting.
Instead of touching up game modes or mechanics that have remained stagnant for a decade, WT devs can just keep adding new shiny vehicles and make profit indefinitely because they will never run out of combat vehicles.

TL;DR: If you want Gaijin to shift from adding new vehicles to adding new game mechanics, we need to reach world peace ASAP so that they run out of new vehicles to add eventually.

Mechanized infantry in NPC form (same like in AW) is not the same as Enlisted infantry. Those are two absolutely different things.

The details don’t matter, you’re still creating competition with your own product.

Enlisted is the infantry game. War Thunder is the vehicle game.
That’s how they’re advertised.
If War Thunder implements infantry, new players who may have otherwise played both will ignore Enlisted entirely because WT sounds like a better investment for their time and money.
When I first started WT, I had the choice between WT and World of Warplanes and World of Tanks. I chose WT because it had both planes and tanks in one game and since then I never gave the other two a chance.

Enlisted have vehicles as well so according to you they make competition to their own game.

WT already has a hugely successful playerbase. Enlisted is the new game on the block that requires a constant stream of new players to stay alive.
If anything, Enlisted should be “competing” more with WT to pull in more players.

I dont agree with that at all but its your opinion.

The details matter entirely. The gameplay would be nothing like enlisted as players would still be playing in vehicles only. The suggestion wasn’t for players to play as infantry. The suggestion is for A.I infantry to be used as an additional asset for vehicles. Enlisted players play enlisted because you can play as infantry. War thunder players play war thunder because you only play in vehicles. They are fundamentally two different games. Enlisted players would switch back as soon as they realize they can’t play as infantry.

Infantry with bazookas or panzerfaust for at, and at rifles for aa in WW2.
AT4, karl gustav, rpg for at, and stingers for aa in Modern Battles.
The system of deploying could be the same as the new ammo crate introduced in Fire Birds.
