Not sure if anyone at Gaijan read history books but B17’s were not employed as low level ground attack planes. They have no business been classed as a CAS.
everything that can fly can be a cas in the game. and history doesnt matter
I do find it ridiculous how a heavy bomber can wipe out half the team on a single pass. Its a broken game mechanic.
There are quite a few examples of heavy bombers being used tactically and even at low level. Operation Cobra, the Ploiești oil fields raid, etc.
Its just a game dude.
It’s just the game. Bombers can be used as CAS even if their doctrines and design aren’t meant to do that.
“broken game mechanic” literally the weakest class of vehicles in all of Warthunder. You not even complaining about Pe-8 or Lancaster, you complaining abt a damn B-17.
No shirt batman - really??
Well today you learned that WT ain’t reality!
Bombers being used against ground targets? God forbid they do what they’re supposed to!
what?
that’s are bombers used to in WWII and modern war to destroy enemy ground targets and buildings
Look, the question is whether the heavy bombers are OP for CAS, all history and “it’s just the game” aside. The ability to carpet bomb with the Shackleton and a couple of other bombers is, IMHO, an OP aspect of the game, assuming the bomber doesn’t spawn with an enemy fighter in firing range and position, a frequent occurrence.
The “it’s just the game” doesn’t hold water as an argument. It’s a matter of coding. Hell, the devs could code B-52s into a WW2 tank batlle if they wanted to. So, it’s easy to remove certain aircraft from the CAS probabilities. It’s also easy to set a base altitude for the heavies. For those citing Op Cobra, the heavy bombers flew at 12000-16000ft MSL, otherwise flack would’ve eaten them.
The Air Force wanted a 1500 yard space between friendly troops and the bomb line, and they finally agreed to drop with just 1,200 to 1,500 yards (approximately 1,100 to 1,370 meters) and still had bombs hit friendly troops. And there’s a BIG difference between bombing that supports a tactical operation (e.g. Cobra) and tactical air strikes supporting troops in contact.
Which one of you is who’s sock puppet?
That’s all you got is an ad hominem?
About all it deserves.
Whatever, dude. If you don’t have something pertinent to contribute, move onto something else.
Ground targets as in factories, ships/shipyards and railroads/railroad tracks.
Not something as small as tanks. Especially when they are moving.
But as others have said, WT ain’t really reality.
A city that has tanks in it however . . .
… ur complaining about a B-17??? There’s Pe-8 and lancasters and u complain about the Flying Fortress?
