I have noticed that the He 219 is currently classified as a Strike Aircraft, which does not accurately reflect its historical role. The He 219 was specifically designed and operated as a night interceptor, tasked with intercepting and destroying enemy bombers during nighttime operations.
I would like to suggest changing its classification from Strike Aircraft to Interceptor, along with granting it the interceptor spawn. This would not only be more historically accurate, but it would also improve gameplay balance.
With the recent bomber update, bombers have become significantly more effective and durable than before. Reclassifying the He 219 as an interceptor would allow it to fulfill its intended role of engaging bombers and defending against aerial threats, giving players a dedicated aircraft better suited to countering bomber formations.
Thank you for considering this suggestion. I believe this change would both improve historical authenticity and provide more meaningful gameplay for He 219 pilots.
Imho you are on the right track, but you miss 2 important topics:
Interceptor and strike aircraft spawn are at the same altitude - in order to change the combat effectiveness you have to ask for the 1 km higher spawn of British or American night fighters - called Air superiority fighter spawn.
The classifications within the game are often misleading as they are often pure balancing decisions and have also an impact on required spawn points (SP) for multi-spawn game modes
Another topic:
Your idea to intercept bombers with a nightfighter is correct - but at least in the current shape of bomber damage models you won’t have a noteworthy higher damage output as their ability to absorb damage is centered around a very high resistance vs HE ammunition . The He 219 has a better firepower, yes, but as long as bombers can survive killing your airfield aaa defense nothing will change.
I encourage you to address this topic in the the next BR change round - i addressed this in August this year:
