So now that the Hawk 200 is coming to the game I figured it’d be prudent to put together a thread to discuss the technical details of the aircraft.
Just a brief overview of the aircraft the Hawk 200 is an modification of the Hawker Siddeley/British Aerospace/BAE system Hawk jet trainer into a single seat light multirole fighter. Similar in role to something like an F-5 the purpose of the Hawk 200 was to provide fighter on a budget capable of dealing with modern threats but without the price tag of a modern supersonic fighter.
History of the Hawk 200
A long long time ago back in the ye oldy period of 1960’s (A time of the Beatles, Elvis, moon landings and some very strange fashion choices) Air Staff Target 362 was issued. The fundemtnal requirment of which was to develop a new fast jet trainer to replace the old but solid Folland Gnat (which had been in service with the RAF for about 5 years by this point) in the fast jet trainer role, originally it looked like this role would be filled by the two seat configuration of the SEPECAT Jaguar (Jaaaaaaaaaaag) however it rather rapidly became obvious that this platform was too complex for the purposes of AST 362. So a new design was need and the job fell to that British aircraft design legend the late great Ralph Hooper at Hawker (one of the minds behind the Harrier). Originally a private venture and designsted HS.1182 the first prototype took flight on the 21 August 1974 and was accepted into RAF Service 2 years later as the Hawk T.1.
Now about a decade after that first flight BAE (I’m not going to go into the shinaninags that were the British aerospace corporate mergers in this period.) decided to look at producing a combat dedicated Hawk variant in order to cater to a budget strike fighter market, they realised existed due to other countries interest in the Panavia tornado but lack of financial investment to purchase tornados. So a single seat version of the Hawk with capability for Radar and more extensive ordnance options was developed. This development was not untroubled, with anearly loss of of the firet prototype ZG200 in a G-LOC accident that killed BAE Dunsfolds chief test pilot Jim Hawkins 2 months after the first flight. A. Replacement prototype ZH200 (the aircraft were getting in game) had to be constructed in order to continue the development process, this aircraft survived and is now preserved as a learning at Loughborough University. Numerous changes had to be made for the production aircraft that included the deletion of the internal 25mm ADEN cannons present on ZH200. However eventually production was reached with the aircraft seeing reasonable success being sold to multiple contries and is still in service to this day. More details on the development and history of the Hawk 200 and it’s variants can be found in the below suggestions.

Power Plant

The part that is more my area of authority. The history of the power power is a tad secutious originally developed by Rolls-Royce and Turbomecha for the Jag the original Adours (Named after river in France to reflect the combined heritage of the engine, Rolls-Royce engines developed in Darby/Barnoldswick(RB numbered engines) are traditionally named after British rivers.) were designed as compact Reheat engines untill the Mk 151 (which functionally consisted of stripping the reheat parts off the engine and fitting a longer jet pipe.) which was used in the original Hawk from that point development jumped to focusing on the non reheat Adours. The 871 present in the Hawk 200 and 100 was notable improvement over the earlier 151 featuring more advanced control systems and a higher thrust output (6,000lb’s uninstalled). Honestly I wish there was more written on the adour engines because they’re solid bits of kit that have been in service for donkeys.
Hawk 200 in game
We are getting ZH200 so what does that mean? Well it means we’ll have the inbuilt Aden 25’s but no radar as ZH200 never had it’s radar installed (the radar bay was taken up by test equipment). Based on the trailer and dev blog we’re looking at 4Sidewinders (likely 9L) for AAM’s and 4Mavs for precision ground attack, a good selection of rockets(looks like SNEB, TBA and CRV-7), additional 30mm ADEN gunpod, a selection of bombs and Sea Eagle. Also featuring a decent RWR set Flight performance and BR wise it’s 10.7 on the dev. And eventually we will be getting ZJ201 which will not have guns but will carry more missiles and have a radar.
