As far as the countermeasures go, I do believe that is the AV-8A, it gets decent missiles as well, the AIM-9G’s, I could have sworn I head somewhere of the Harrier going Mach. I don’t have experience with playing the SRAAM’s, but playing against them is annoying. The guns, as with all new to you weapons require a bit of learning, but the 30mm ADEN cannons are amazing from my experience, and even rival the GAU-8 in some aspects. As for the Gr.1 I believe it was able to outfit Alkan chaff/flare dispensers, but isn’t in the game.
Yep, that is both the AV-8A. The Gr1 is SRAAM only and no CMs
It was discussed a lot on the old forums. I think the general consensus was that it could have gotten the same CMs that teh Harrier Gr3 has, but simply never did, it was replaced by the Gr3 in service instead.
That’s interesting. The dispensers pods on the Buccaneer are an R. Alkan product. It stands to reason the UK might have trialled it on Harrier as well.
Do you have any reference media for them on Harrier?
No I see Harriers all the time when flying 9.0 so I am sure 8.7 players are seeing them all the time as well. And if I see an A-10A taking off with me in my F-86K or Etendard, well I might as well just shut the engine down and go back to the hangar. At least the Harriers aren’t as much of a pest as the undertiered American F-104s. Let them see things they can’t just run away from for a change.
Just double checked and with no loadouts and min fuel, maxes out at about 0.95 mach (with WEP) and can hit super-sonic speeds only in dive.
Perhaps you were thinking about the Super-sonic version of the Harrier that was planned to be built. It was discussed in another thread not that long ago.
At current state plane is unplayable. No CM, poor missiles range and plane speed. Flying brick can do 1 turn that’s it.
Forgot that missiles can’t hit plane fly8ng strait too.
Personally feel like my GE should be refunded, as this is not what I paid for!
It’s one of those aircraft that because of its role and advantages/shortcomings excels in Sim EC, but struggles in AB/RB.
You paid for the Harrier Gr.1, with all its advantages and disadvantages, not its BR. All vehicles in game are always subject to change, but apart from a BR rise at the very beginning (and addition of incendiary and high drag bombs), nothing was changed in the Gr.1…
With any luck. We might actually get that SRAAM overhaul they’ve been promising for about 8 months.
SRAAMs with double the range and all-aspect would be really fun. But even if they were just more reliable to use they would be fun in their current state.
But then there is also the compression issue.
I kinda get it. I played the Gr1 a lot in 2022. Even back when SB was like 9.3-11.3 Brackets. I quite happily fought plenty of viggens and Mig-21s, etc in the Gr1 and had a blast. But at the end of 2022, they did something to the missiles and now they dont always work. But data has been found and bug reports submitted at the start of last year should transform the SRAAMs back into one of the strongest missiles at that BR.
Indeed. I adore it in Sim, cause who doesn’t like missiles that are optimised for dogfights in sim.
Of course, that is, when I play sim. Once every blue moon.
It is, broadly speaking, workable in air RB. the trouble is dealing with all aspect missiles, to which you have to hope and pray or run the SNEBs.
As for now the Harrier GR.1 is practically unplayable in Air RB, it really needs to be lowered in BR.
It literally gets out run, out maneuvered and out gunned.
A flying brick with only hope and dreams.
aaaah but since its bri’ish of course its balanced where it is!
Its a flying joke.
If only gaijin went and corrected SRAAM performance, Harrier GR.1 might be in an acceptable place. At this rate, take the funny missiles away and let me have the plane at 9.0 or something.
Can’t wait to see my MiG-15 and A-5 Sabre, Swift F.1 eats SRAAMs.
It will be worse than the 9.3 Yak-38 and F-104A.
