Harimau: Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright

The brs of the large caliber light tanks about this range are very inconsistent. For example compare the m10 to the vt5 then compare the harimau to the 2s25m, then look at sweeden. These vehicles are all over the place

Idk, I like the oplot-t way more then the type 10, too bad they botched the armor.

Can’t stand no depression, otherwise yeah, similar.

More armour then any German leopard btw. (Unless it’s been nerfed to 2a7V levels)

Don’t know why they would. As it is it’s already underperforming, or at least the side armor is. Despite using a heavier version of the AMAP-B side armor package than the Strv 122B+, in game somehow has less armor protection.

But the Leopard 2A7V should get its D-Tech composites, iirc it’s still just stuck with C-Tech in game. It’d also be nice to see a German version of the Leopard 2 Revolution, or even the Leopard 2 Technologieträger with AMAP-ADS that are more fully equipped than the current squadron Leopard 2PL (or 2RI for that matter).

You see it’s going to be another TVM or anything else :3 never added to Germany.

Revolution would just be 2RI with rosy

Yeah, also a better commanders sight, RWS and slat armor around the rear.
Though the 2RI does have a heavier armor kit, but even then there’s a demonstrator for this version that could also be added and also has slat armor the 2RI lacks. This was also sold to Singapore and used on later Leopard 2SG.

I really wish you weren’t right…

Harimau is just bad, lol. 10.3 with this :

  • 105mm that pen 430mm at 0m, 0°,
  • 7.5 sec reload
  • not a single lineup to backup, no tanks, no Heli, no good CAS
  • mobility is meh for 10.3
  • 2S25M is just better at 10.0.

Am I the only one thinking that ?

I totally agree. The Type 16 (P) is better too—even in 10.3+ battles—yet it sits at 9.3. Gun depression is its only weakness compared to the Harimau. I’ve had a better experience with the Type 16’s DM23 than with the Harimau’s DM63. Even the Gal Batash—also at 9.3—is slower, lol, but the same shell, faster reload, and ability to actually survive a hit here and there make it a better choice at that BR. The Sabra is a monster compared to that matchbox.
And they all have excellent lineups.
Everything is better than the Harimau.
They really butchered it.

Kinda reminds me of when the M4/T26 was added and they listed a key downside as lacking APCR . . . as if anyone would use it anyways.

They’re legit just typin random stuff to hit a word count.

It’s really just a 9.3 shell that you can find on the Olifant mk.2 and other, the reload is from 9.0, the light tank mobility is from 9.3-9.7, gun handling from 10.0+, that’s the reason it’s 10.3. No logic there.

If it’s moved to 10.0, they give the A-4 PTM it’s Mavericks bringing it at 9.7 or 10.0.

They could add at 10.0 the MD530G from Malaysia, that can carry APKWS as only guided weapons, gun pods, and classic rocket, the lineup could actually be enjoyable.

Yes the premium Hawk 209 would be the only viable CAS, though that would mean bringing it to 10.7. If it had 5second reload and a better dart, I would indeed be tempted to run that… but definitely not in its current state. If they want to keep it the way it is it’s gotta go to 9.7 to make it somewhat viable. And even there I would probably rather run the Stingray.

Why is T72 engine sound used on Harimau, feels like BMPT is waiting behind a corner while in reality its a metal box that you can 50 cal

They should at least give it better ammo that DM63, like M1060A3 (500+ mm at 2000 m) or M1060CV (530 to 550 mm at 2000 m due to being optimized for high pressure 105 guns like found on the Harimau). Then it would be similar to the 2S25M in that it can pen almost anything at its BR but have a bad reload and be easily taken out by autocannons.

Which shells are used IRL ? I can’t really find something about it.

I also don’t know, but M1060A3/M1060CV is made specifically for the high pressure 105 as found on the Cockerill 3105 turret, which is the Harimaus turret.

This is a post by a suggestions moderator outlining the Cockerill turret.

He states that M1060CV can be utilized.

Also that the XC-8 variant, albeit a more advanced version has the same fire rate: 7.5s sustained to 5s stressed.

I would advocate for the inclusion of the M1060CV round for the Harimau, Boxer MGS, and CT-CV. This would bring them more in line with vehicles like the M1128 and 2S25.

We have some fairly good information on this. PT Pindad has officially documented the Harimau firing HEP-T and TPCSDS-T ammunition during its firing trials. Source.

The exact ammunition designations are not always publicly stated, but the following MECAR rounds are either confirmed, or highly plausible based on the available documentation:

Likely/confirmed ammunition
Designation Gun Caliber Type Status
M393A3-E 105 mm 105 mm HEP-T / HESH Confirmed/strongly identified
M1057 105 mm 105 mm TPCSDS-T Confirmed
M1060A2 105 mm 105 mm APFSDS-T Likely
M1061 105 mm 105 mm HEAT-T Likely
M490 105 mm 105 mm HEAT-TP Likely training ammunition
M467 105 mm 105 mm HESH-TP Likely training ammunition
M416 105 mm 105 mm WP smoke Likely

MECAR’s 105 mm ammunition family includes the M1050/M1060 APFSDS-T, M456A2 HEAT-T, M490 training HEAT and M416 smoke rounds, all intended for 105HP/L7/M68/CN105-family guns.

For the Harimau specifically, however, I would say historically speaking; the safest confirmed ammunition is M1057 TPCSDS-T and the HEP-T round, while M1060A2 is particularly plausible as an operational APFSDS round (being the main exported round to Indonesia currently). Pindad itself states that the Harimau’s 105 mm turret is capable of firing APFSDS-T ammunition.

So an accurate in-game ammunition selection should probably include M1061 + M1057, with M1060A2 as the most likely modern APFSDS-T option.

In case of the Harimau and its turret siblings only being able to utilize sub 500mm pen munitions, it would be reasonable to expect them to go down in BR. Their reload speed is just too anemic to be competitive at +10.0…

Another question would be: where is the exact documentation that supposes that the XC-8 variant is capable to sustain 5s reload speeds?
