You literally said it “looks and behaves like a long 90mm”, when it doesn’t. It’s statistically identical to the 90mm M3. You’re basing a large part of your argument for why it should go up on how the gun “feels”, over how the gun actually is.
Compared to other 5.7 heavy tanks, you have a whole 2 hp/ton advantage (While losing out on top speed considerably), at the expense of any reliable armor. Outside of some volumetric spots on the turret (Which the Tiger H1 and IS-1 share), it’s effectively unarmored for the tier. The hull is just over 100mm effective, and cannot be angled due to the hull corners. Trying to compare them is laughable.
Also, saying it has “triple .50s” when two of them are stuck in a casemate mount with limited traverse is pretty laughable.
The 90mm with those shells is indeed found on tank destroyers, at 5.3. The 5.7 M36Bs all have access to HEATFS shells, which are a sizable increase in capability.
I also wouldn’t exactly call the base M36 a tank destroyer in the sense you mean, as the firepower it has isn’t all that special. At the same tier that the Germans get the long 88, and the Russians get the 122, you get the short 90mm. The reason the M36 is where it is is due to how flexible it is, being mobile and with a turret, meaning you can play it more aggressively than a traditional tank destroyer.
It would be like saying the KV-85 is clearly overpowered, as it shares a gun with an equal tiered TD (Su-85M).
Also, 37mm solid shot is basically not worth talking about. Especially since it doesn’t fight Hellcats all that often, which is one of the only tanks it can pen with said gun.
Guess you skipped “take it with a grain of salt”.
Statshark takes player stats who have logged in typically.
Given I recently got the vehicle, I might actually be artificially inflating that stat, since I had a really good string of games, getting 6.0 matches, then I started to get 6.7 matches and the tank became useless.
I do find it funny the way you poorly compare things. As the Tiger ost/west is = to the KV-220 in pretty much all aspects, one is a lower br. They have their pros and cons.
That’s pretty poor English, which makes me not understand your comment. I can tell you’re frustrated. Why did I pick the ones I picked? Random. Just happened to scroll, and was saying to myself “hey that’s an tank destroyer to compare it to”
Going off of win rate for how “good a vehicle is” is complete nonsense that I expect from a level 75, instead of a veteran player lv100, and with 10k+ games.
Pangolin, I love you brother. Keep skipping over the details, and painting a picture that is just dishonest, like you always do, then you get proven wrong by literally everyone, like always.
It’s crazy, because I’m agreeable with people who know what they are talking about, and have experience with said vehicles.
But the lot of you who are very very “cult like” in your anti Russian beliefs are getting… out of hand…
But I highlighted where I said it in the previous post, just to prove you wrong again. :)
Say what you will, but exposing factually better vehicles than their counterparts is just my way of life. All in all, game balance, and fun above all else
A nice to have, but not completely exceptional advantage. The IS-1 has a more than comfortable reverse speed.
It’s tied for second fastest out of four tanks. In other words, it’s tied for the second slowest 5.7 heavy. Whew, what an advantage.
It really, really doesn’t, at least not in comparison to other 5.7 heavies. The Tiger’s got the black hole driver’s port and machine gun port, while the IS-1 has the UFP and turret of many angles, which will both easily eat shells that should pen. Meanwhile, the Jumbo’s bipolar machine gun port that will sometimes eat all the spall of rounds that make it through.
Meanwhile, the T1E1 has some rounding on the turret corners, and a few perpendicular plates on the UFP around the machine gun port. If you’re aiming even remotely appropriately, neither of those will factor in.
That’s a funny way of trying to spin “Cannot overpressure like the Tiger I can”.
The high pen on the M82 shot is the principle advantage of the T1E1, however, due to a funny quirk, that extra pen doesn’t actually help all that much. There’s basically no common targets that M82 will go through that the 85mm or 88mm cannot. Armor takes quite a considerable jump in effective thickness around that BR, meaning 185mm just isn’t all that impressive. You can’t engage a Tiger II frontally, nor UFP a Panther, nor a T-44, nor a Centurion, etc etc. Pretty much the only thing it helps with is engaging Su-85M/100/French Jumbos at longer ranges.
The Russian 85mm has it effectively matched.
It is literally 0.1 seconds slower than every other 5.7 heavy reload, barring the Jumbo. It also has a ready rack of only 4 rounds, after which it reloads much slower (13 seconds on my non-aced crew).
By 2. Nice to have, and arguably one of the only consistently useful advantages it does have, but no way enough to offset the armor deficits.
A comfortable advantage, but not a game winning one.
32mm of pen with 38g of explosive mass is “good for light tanks”? For reference, the .50s will pen 31mm. Anything you can kill with the 37mm, you could more quickly kill by just spraying down with the .50s, usually from behind complete cover, and without having to alter your aim to the different ballistics of the 37mm.
Barrelling people with .50s? That’s not been a thing in quite a long time. You can indeed track people with the hull mounted .50s, but that requires sitting out in the open, exposing your weak hull armor, meaning it’s only useful against already crippled tanks that are completely unsupported. Nice to have, not a reason it should be comparable to the Tiger E.
Because, if the KV-220 is properly angled and with it’s turret facing the T1E1, it can only be penned through the mantlet (only destroying the gun), or in a small and easy to wiggle cupola. Meanwhile, this is what the KV-220 sees:
If it’s good enough for a 5.0 KDr it’s completely busted. As is the T58. I am no top 10 player, or competitive player, and I still manage a 4.22 KDr in the T58
I love how you admit it’s better, without admitting it.
Also the 85mm is weaker than the 90mm. That extra pen does matter, it means it’s more effective in uptiers. Also, given that it is a 5.7 it’s overkill for 4.7 tanks.
I hate to break it to you, but you’re dead wrong there.
Even at 500 meters there is wonky spots the 90mm can pen, it may be spaghetti code armor, but penning a 70° angle is quite odd, on a 100mm plate, wouldn’t you agree?
Also angling, there is a lot of weakspots, pretty much all you can count on, while angling is the side armor… and if your really uncertain just hit the commanders hatch and kill the turret crew easily.
In summary, the T1E1(90) is better than 6.0 heavies in all but armor. Yet, since it’s American, it continues to be under br’d just like the T58.
Anti Russian ideology is so funny here, Russian heavies are typically overtired, while USA ones are under.
S-38b 1.7 > 1.3: it’s literally just the reserve version but with 2 MG-34s which only really help against planes. Against other boats they’re just about useless.
