I know this is likely an unpopular opinion, and the maps we have would likely make the use of these sights painful for newer players, but I think one element that would make ground RB vastly better would be the skill expression of learning parralax.
This is coming from a light vehicle, autocannon fiend but it would make barrel torture a lot harder, along with pixel perfect aiming harder, and give actual tanks with armor a bit more time to respond to a threat before getting instantly weakspotted.
I really want ground RB to be the happy medium between Arcade and Sim, but Ground RB just feels as arcadey as arcade nowdays, just without the UI element to tell you you’ll pen.
Ok look can you not boresight a tank so that the sight is already taking into account the offset and not have to learn parallax I feel like this is something tanks especially modern tanks and sights can do.
I mean tanks are boresighted, but that still doesn’t remove the existence of parralax. But modern laser rangefinders adjust for this, and I dont have a problem with that, because laser rangerfinders are detectable by vehicles that have those protective elements (and lets you know you were just ranged, or being painted).
But I really want the gunner sights for a few reasons. Mainly because in CQB scenarios, where autocannon players seem to snap and spray and turn ground RB into a reflex game, it would punish that behavior if they were sighted for CQB.
Having parallax wouldn’t punish ifvs they can spray and pray. and from my very limited (not tank) bore sighting adventures even with an object 50 feet away both the gun in question and sight will be looking at the same thing this same applies true even when looking at an object further away.
Yes, I mean that’s kind of the point? I want tanks with armor to be able to have a higher TTK against the autocannon meta. I want those small gaps in geometry to be harder to abuse.
BMPTs are a seperate issue entirely. A broken tank shouldn’t be the baseline for comparison.
I think GRB skews heavier toward the arcade side, especially at higher tiers now. This is my feeling and you’re certainly welcome to disagree.
Huh? But right now they can spray and pray accurately… they can black our your barrel in an instant or snipe a pixel weak spot. Im not saying this is going to remove spraying and praying, but its going to remove some ability to do it accurately and quickly.
CQB is litterally when the offset between boresight and gunner sight is the most extreme.
It’s not going to though? it will take all of twenty seconds in a test drive to figure out parallax if we add it, and even then they have a line of tracers shooting at you that make it far easier for them to adjust onto target, not to mention commander sights could just make all of it irrelevant anyways.
That’s skill expresion though, because every tank is going to have different gunner sights. If you can memorize perfectly all the tanks you use, and all their offsets to fire off the cuff from you should be rewarded for that.
And once again, your mention of tracers is adding time to the TTK. Its not stopping it from happening but its giving the receiving player more time to react based on if they have armor or not.
