Hello everyone,
At the moment, many players are uniting to share their frustration about Ground Realistic Battles in combination with the new Air-to-Ground ordnance. I share this sentiment because it’s quite frustrating to play Ground Realistic Battles right now; after 5–10 minutes, it often feels more like an Air Realistic Battle.
The New Idea
War Thunder—and therefore Gaijin—will always aim to introduce new mechanics, weapon systems, vehicles, and so on. This can be great if done correctly. What do you think about a new game mode that could be unlocked once you’ve reached Rank VII in both the Ground and Aviation tech trees for that nation? It’s important to require both, as this would prevent a situation where 50 players are in the air and only 4 are on the ground. You see my point.
In the Air Sim Mode, there are convoys that appear to conquer a new tile on the map. What if these convoys weren’t AI units, but instead served as battlefields for ground players?
As far as I remember, those Sim-Maps are mostly 11x11 tiles. If we assume that battles can occur simultaneously on 1/3 of those tiles, this would effectively spread out the fighting. Players could join a lobby, and for each tile, the objective would be to capture 3 flags. If all flags are captured and the ticket counter reaches 0, the tile is either lost or won.
How do you lose tickets within a tile?
- When a tank destroys another tank.
- By holding flags (yes, the offensive team starts at a disadvantage because at the beginning of the game, all three flags are controlled by the defending team).
This way, Close Air Support does not directly impact the ticket system. Instead, it could only be used strategically to support your team in capturing or defending a flag.
The airfields would remain the same as in the Sim-Maps, functioning as the “bases” for each team.
How can a lobby end?
The game time would be the same as in Sim Battles: 3 hours. There would be a lobby ticker based on the number of tiles controlled. For example, with a 10x10 tile map (100 tiles total), each team would lose 50 points per tick. If Team A wins 2 tiles and pushes back Team B, then Team A would lose 48 tickets per tick while Team B would lose 52. Assuming the lobby starts with 9,000 tickets for each team, this setup would result in a tie after 3 hours.
Another way to win the game would be to capture all three of the enemy’s airfields. An army without bases can’t function for long.
What are the benefits regarding CAS?
The game area would be much more spread out, which would make new defense systems like the S-300 or Patriot systems more effective and reduce the load of CAS for each battle.
On the current maps, systems like the S-300 or Patriot wouldn’t work effectively. Similarly, ordnance like the new KH-59 missile wouldn’t be practical either. However, with this new mode, both sides of modern warfare could demonstrate their capabilities. S-300/Patriot systems could shoot down cruise missiles, and if AA systems were rewarded for shooting down air ordnance, this could motivate players to focus not only on planes but also on weaponry.
So, yeah… What do you think about this idea?
Do you see any flaws?
Do you think such a mode could make War Thunder Top-Tier Realistic more fun to play?
