As OP said above: Team stoopid, me smart, they not deserve help.
Have a look at that, OP, and think twice before saying GRB is the worst gamemode.
Because it’s clear it could obviously be worse.
I hardly play ground battles anymore but it’s probably for the most part that I don’t enjoy playing on 90% of the maps.
Mostly because I want to play a tank game but the maps just feel like playing just game.
It’s very similar with air battle, where everything feels incredibly artificial, pointless and boring but at least you can do what the mode is about: Trying to destroy enemy aircraft, while using the own vehicles strengths and being aware of the enemies strengths and weaknesses.
It’s just sad that that’s pretty much the only positiv about the mode.
Also sad that a lot of vehicles can’t do what they were designed to do.
Back to ground.
I guess CAS can be annoying and personally I wouldn’t mind, if aircraft had something better to do than bully ground players.
But it’s probably part of Gaijins master stategy to make the game as annoying as possible.
In reality CAS would be a lot less effective because guns and rockets aren’t that accurate in reality and bombs would either bounce from the ground, bury themself 5m into the ground or just shatter without exploding, when you don’t have an impact fuze active.
Ground game modes are boring, limited respawns are stupidly and it’s frustrating having to deal with tank kill mechanics that benefit APHE massively.
Its meant to be miserable. Not even with premium will you get better matches. Since Gaijin essentially has a monopoly on tank games (with semi-realistic mechanics) they can just force you to pay them, since, what are you going to do, go play world of tanks? I used to only play GRB on another account (that i deleted in an attempt to leave this game) but it never got better. Now volumetric has just made things worse. A t34 can block a 122mm round just cause it hit the fenders? Just play naval, at least CAS is a core mechanic there.
Thats a whole lotta crying… Literally cope harder CAS and busting tanks is the only reason I play ground so cry moar I guess
I can tell by your post history you only come here to shit on people that complain about CAS, telling them to go play something else and that the game is perfect as is. And also just shitting on tanks in general. Just go read the reviews in steam, if this many people complain about CAS then there’s clearly a problem. Or better yet, try playing a bunch of games without using CAS
Been there that is the reason I swiched to naval. At least the aircraft are easier to shoot down but as with ‘ground’ the Russian bias is still around.
All good points definitely a gamble sometimes it pays off, and personally I have gotten nukes by only just using spaa at 5.7/6.3 full uptiers with France, Italy and some other nations quite a few times, depending on the spaa they can be lethal.
Also if the entire team is using CAS no one is on the ground classic US teams lol. I love using CAS but also love playing anti-cas with a fighter. I think the game is ok where it is, they have definitely nerfed cas over time but it’s one of the unique things about War thunder that separates it.
An idea could be to make fighters with just air belts/ under a certain pen belts cheaper to start in a plane to be a counter right away much like SIM, but this could be abused on light open tanks
Not played naval coastal have you?
Gaijin think it’s fair that a fishing boat with a 20mm cannon should be forced to engage a ww2 destroyer at 3.5 miles. It’s basically like taking an L3 into top tier ground.
It’s a clownshow, but then the entire game is a joke now. It’s what happens when devs focus on greed and money more than their product.
Anyway, nice to post before the inevitable “we’re locking this post because it’s negative about the game”
ah yes, BECAUSE THE FREE SPAA AND TANK WERE SUCH A GOOD ADDITION TO THE GAME THAT WE NEED MORE!
Yes we infact need more free vehicles so tweedle dee and tweedle dum can be even more useless.
Free vehicles are completely worthless and so is gonna be a CAP plane.
Not only would your loadout be limited given the track record of free vehicle implementation, it would also not have experted crew, something that is extremely important for pretty much all jets past a certain BR to not instantly G-Lock themselves.
Free vehicles are already either a meme or bad addition to the game, serving 0 purpose. Meant to fix the issue of people who bought premium vehicles and have only one premium vehicle in lineup from 1 death leaving, it addressed exactly 0 of the issues and functions to provide free Pantsir to your average russian top tier 80UE1 window-licker while everyone else gets squat.
That person can’t function without going into the air.
Majority of (modest) success comes from air-to-ground kills.
No.
Gaijin doesn’t (or at least shouldn’t) give a fuck about the whining of tank-only tourists who don’t want to play the game they want to make and want them to make a different game instead. You’re allowed to just Not Like the Game.
Steam negative reviews are a metric of ‘this user, personally, did not like the game’. Game developers do not have to cater to your personal tastes, expecting them to and demanding things they didn’t want to do is how we got:
- Top tier FnF CAS (Going past the hard tech cutoff of 1954-odd they originally wanted to stick to because people wanted the Abrams in the game made aircraft past that tech cutoff not only inevitable but necessary)
- Insane bluewater compression and the Sovetsky Soyuz (Constant demand for bigger ships because people wanted Cruisers and Battleships even though they would render anything lower-BR that faced them effectively useless; and there wouldn’t be anything historical they could implement for the Soviets except unfinished projects they couldn’t complete in their last documented form)
- One-shot nuke APHE still being in the game and thus any nation without it having a massive disadvantage (Players explicitly refused to try a less absurd model for it that would have more parity with solid-shot shells)
- Top tier FnF SPAA making any CAS that isn’t FnF missiles unplayable, removing the actually fun CAS gameplay where the pilot had to aim and the ground players at least had feedback on what was happening (The same tech cutoff bypass in pursuit of the Abrams)
- The top tier air Missile Metas (Again: all this is a result of Abrams Begging Raising the Cutoff Date.)
This isn’t a unique phenomenon to War Thunder; but I think it would be much healthier both for war thunder and in general if people could recognise that it’s just not the game that they, personally, want to play. Yes, there’s nothing else close to it and that sucks, but that doesn’t make a dislike of the game’s core mechanics. No game developer should be expected to compromise on what they want to do just because a large portion of people have pushed their way into their audience despite hating large parts of their work.
NECESSARY EDIT: I spent a while trying to think if anything good has come from player demands in the past since only focusing on things most players seem to hate (I personally actually like top tier air, I think the way Gaijin ended up implementing missiles is pretty engaging to play with in terms of controls) felt kind of unfair and remembered about the Economy Changes, which I think are actually a pretty good case study in terms of Good Feedback.
It was a large portion of the playerbase split across all playstyles and modes just. Not wanting to play anymore not because they didn’t like the actual game (or because anything was genuinely broken mechanically, like the BMPT damage model kinda is now) but because the experience of engaging with the game that they did like was genuinely just kind of miserable outside of the minute to minute experience of playing it due to Business Decisions, so they just… stopped playing.
Shit I personally just didn’t touch the game for years because of how bad it was around what was then top tier air around 2018-2020, and was pleasantly surprised to see how the SL economy worked now when I took a look at it again a couple of months ago. The old SL economy was bad. It wasn’t an integral part of the actual game, it was an element of the monetization schema that hadn’t scaled well with the ever-increasing scope of the game to the point that it was becoming genuinely intolerable, and when (presumably) the business side of the company realised that people just flat out weren’t going to play the actual game anymore because of it, the developers made a set of sweeping changes that IMO didn’t fully resolve everything; but made the game not feel absolutely miserable to play in any way whatsoever no matter how the gameplay was.
The existence of CAS is… not that kind of issue. It’s an issue of taste, round flow balance, and the ever-present belief of gamers that their personal moment-to-moment experience is the most important thing for the game.
Navel AA is automatic compare to ground relying on teammate spawning spaa.
It’s also much more heavily massed since it’s designed to be spread out against entire waves of aircraft rather than focusing down individual targets. It’s one of the weird incongruities that come from the mode not having been designed to accommodate ships of the current size, if they were starting development on it now with bluewater in mind I imagine the mechanics for spawning aircraft in naval would look pretty different if they were even in at all (and I imagine they’ll probably be reworked if/when carriers are added to make planes do something other than occupy lineup slots)
Indeed it is but it is far more satisfying to switch to secondary guns and bring down a Pe8 flying above light AAA with a proximity fuse.
its not that they listened to player feedback, they were forced to -somewhat- fix the economy, or else their whole company would just collapse. Allowing gaijin to “make the game they want” would mean: Fast paced, small maps in ground, because gamers dont have the time to engage in tactical battles. (Also make sure to push some CAS planes for extra revenue). Air reduced to a deathmatch, because bombers are useless and are just meant for naval or ground. Small maps for naval, because gamers dont have the time time to engage in tactical battles (And lets NOT balance according to size… that way we can sell premiums). We bitch and whine about CAS because GRB has turned into ARB, sometimes the match goes on far longer than it should because one of the teams has only planes left (and maybe one guy AFK at spawn). And no, its not because SPAA is not doing their job, or that ground players have no aim, its because planes can easily just zoom past or attack you from an angle you cannot. MGs exist, sure, but most are not in a good position to engage with air targets. // Also, ignoring player requests only works in projects such as ULTRAKILL, since there is no multiplayer or balancing required. This is a “live service” game, and thus developers MUST listen to their players, or else the BMPT will stay broken… Or the internal components of most russian tanks for that matter… Or more copy paste premiums, etc.
yes, they were forced to fix the business side of the game for business reasons
That has nothing to do with the actual gameplay. listening to players on gameplay outside of ‘hey this thing is Legitimately Broken in terms of functionality’ is a death sentence because players, while never wrong about how they feel, are usually wrong about why they feel that way and almost universally wrong about the solution.
CAS should cost more to spawn, it’s way too easy for an enemy team to spawn their planes and turn the tide completely at the start of a match, it’s highly unfair.
“Just spawn SPAA” is useless when the enemy team consists of people who do this for a living.
and how exactly does “wrong about why they feel that way” apply? because honestly the only reason i think youll give is “they think its unfair because they got killed, but theyre wrong because skill issue/balance/prevent campers” or “gaijin needs to make their money”, so please elaborate
