It would be necessary to increase the SP cost of the new 12.7 AA units. IRIS and similar systems enter battles at unrealistically low costs compared to the amount of destruction they can cause. As long as there’s an IRIS on the field, air players are basically benched and the same goes for BUK and others. I’m saying this as someone who plays both sides, though I spend much more time with AA. So in a way, I’m arguing against myself, but the fact that 3–4 of these can spawn instantly because they cost next to nothing just isn’t okay.
I hate when a Su, helicopter, or any air unit suddenly snipes me out of nowhere… but I do think these new AA systems are extremely effective and help balance the game. Except when you can spawn them for free, while aircraft require way more SP.
Some of us wouldn’t spawn them even when it’s free because it’s too boring to play bro like watching paint dry lol
Well yeah… and it’s hard to play badly with it if it’s even possible to make mistakes at all. Interesting. Even a rookie can get a 4.0 KD with it while the professional air force is sweating bullets. From what I see, with these air defense systems only the most experienced and highly skilled pilots can do anything, and they need a lot of patience… and fuel :)
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that they’re in the game finally the air force has to work hard for their kills. But the fact that they can be deployed anytime for just 100 SP, while on the other side a unit might cost 650 SP, that’s not fair. And when a battle starts with four of them being deployed… there should at least be an equal SP requirement like any aircraft, somewhere between the top-tier tank and top tier plane. That way players would have to think more carefully about what to bring in…
That’s basically making the current situation even worse than it already is. Rendering CAS useless is basically the point of these systems. But if you play a whole 5 matches in top tier you’ll quickly see that they most often than not don’t do all that much…
Now yes. Not everyone using them knows what they’re doing. So that’s one reason they don’t do all that well. But what if they know what they’re doing? Well. Basically all of these multi-vehicle SAM systems are literal skyscrapers and the only one that’s safe is the BUK that can operate it’s TEL by itself because of its onboard radar. Current map design makes them vulnerable to being killed right in their spawn almost all the time, they’re literally one HEAT shell away.
They’re efficiency? Top of the line! On paper. In practice? Not quite. Helis? Just multipath them. If it’s an IRIS or 9X or whatever? Use the new DIRCM helis. By the time anyone gets a chance to spawn a plane these SPAA are either gone or overwhelmed. Heck, if someone spawns it as a reply to CAS then CAS has no issue killing it. Even myself have managed to kill a whole BUK by myself with my F-16’s Vulcan. Not even using any ground ordinance…
So why should they cost more if they can become so useless so quickly? It simply takes 1 or 2 CAS/heli players with 2 functioning braincells to kill these systems. The IRIS, which I consider the strongest one for one reason: uses IR to track, gets rendered useless if the map has any sort of terrain to hide behind.
They should increase the sp costs when they make maps that allow them the ability to hide.
Rn, they obly have maybe 1-2 spots on most maps where they can be safe-ish from tanks while still being able to scan the sky

Even if it only lives for 2 minutes, during those 2 minutes it can easily destroy 5–6 air units. Then the next one enters the battle, and then another, because it’s very cheap in SP. Sometimes I stare at the radar for 10 minutes straight as the first commenter said, it’s really boring but right now it’s the best counter to more serious air units. You can actually hide them quite well; I’m not saying they’re immortal, but if someone deploys them and spreads them out a bit better, that’s already half the battle won.
However, the map design is often downright terrible… starting with the Ardennes. The fact that 4 seconds from the start is enough to get into a position where you can shoot anyone feels a bit odd to me. One team often starts on top of a hill, the other at the bottom… I don’t even understand these things, but I don’t want to stray from the topic :)

And you’re right. If someone who is competent spreads their TELs and TADS is a very good start. And honestly the only good one. I don’t get why people just spawn everything inside the spawn.
I don’t know how your matchmaker goes and how your enemies and teammates are. But my teammates are definitely completely braindead when it comes to using these SPAA correctly and my enemies are top notch when it comes to shoving Brimstones, KH-38 etc etc etc on my forehead. I’ve yet to see a teammate of mine stay alive for long enough to actually do something meaningful. (And yes stuff like the Mi-28 etc don’t really help the situation a whole lot but still).
Y’know, I think a lot of problems would be solved if, oh idk, we got maps that are useable and not one-sided or just completely stupid…
