The Heavy Cavalry major update brings great news for tankers and pilots! First, we’d like to show you the first screenshots of the locations for Ground Battles. The game environment, objects, buildings, and roads have been completely redesigned for the 38th Parallel and Ash River locations, and a new version of the winter Ardennes map will be added. On all maps, we’ve strived to preserve the navigation and gameplay players are familiar with, while also implementing a major visual update aimed at creating a more realistic, atmospheric, and cinematic combat environment. Arresting Gear
Another piece of good news is the addition of arresting gear at ground airfields! An arresting gear is a system of cables arranged in a series, connected to the braking system, that simplifies aircraft braking on aircraft carrier decks and short runways. An aircraft equipped with an arresting hook attaches to one or more sequentially arranged cables, significantly reducing the landing run. Now, at land-based airfields for aircraft with the arresting hook, it will be deployed automatically when the landing gear is lowered — press “G” by default to lower the landing gear!
Eh… Not sure how much I like that actually. Given it was only used IRL in an emergency and not everyday. Seems like you are just making landing even easier than it already was…
Is Ardennes recieving a rework as well with the winter variant? The map is still incredibly one sided and it shouldnt be avaiable past 6.0 BR or around. Please fix it way before adding a new version.
Is this feature applied to all runways by default? Or can it be disabled depending on the selection?
Well, I believe the option can be toggled On/Off in the mission editor, as it might not be necessary in some cases.
That. Everything else would be extremely immersion killin, totally unrealistic and makes ZERO sense, just like having land aircraft being able to land on carriers because they have a hook!
Meanwhile we still don’t even have PAPI/VASI lights which are the international norm on both military and civil airfields since decades, and would actually be a realistic and useful addition…
The arrestor gear is excellent news, now naval planes will stop faster. It was annoying that they took a while to stop because of the lack of chute (unlike land-based fighters). Looking forward to it with my F-8E(FN) and Etendard notably
Though it would be nice if brakes were stronger, irl plane brakes are really strong
We already have air spawn because premium players don’t know how to takeoff, seems it’s only a matter of time we get air repair/rearm because players don’t know how to land
This could be an interesting feature if it only happened when a severely damaged aircraft was on landing approach, and then barriers and arresting equipment would spawn in
