I’ve been having some trouble recently and need some good advice. I recently have been grinding the Soviet tech tree as my first ground tree. I’m at 6.0 br right now and have been having a tough time fighting in confrontations. I’m using the T-34-85, SU-85, and IS-2. Thanks
It certainly depends on you for the most part, the other part is the vehicles you choose. Soviet vehicles at this battle rating range can appear too good or too weak depending on your perspective—in my opinion they rely entirely on the forward mobility to counter the lack of firepower or armor depending on the vehicle.
While I dislike IS-2 because of the extremly slow-firing 122 mm cannon; it does have some good mobility that you can use to work around these issues, armor is decent but not the highlighting feature on this tank.
I have two line-ups around this battle rating range that you could analyse and see if fits to you:
-
Main line-up:

Focusing on the T-44 as main vehicle; the 85 mm cannon is very limiting when facing heavy armored opponents like Tiger II or T26E1 Heavy Tank, the mobility, silhouette and frontal hull armor is the best feature on this vehicle.
IS-2 (1944) coming next as support vehicle, compared to the IS-2 (1943), the 1944 model have enhanced and improved hull armor and a 12.7 mm roof-mounted heavy machine gun, which is a good improvement that can help a lot in most close quarters or long range operations, light armored targets close-on or low-flying air targets.
T-34-85 (STP) is an alternative to the T-44, which retaining a similar mobility, a improved fire control system by introducing a low speed vertical single-plane stabilizer is a good tank to use in close quarters however: The inferior armor shared with all others T-34-85s’ the main drawback aspect of this vehicle; it’s a flanking vehicle, don’t use* like a T-44.
BTR-ZD should be a solid anti-air/anti-tank vehicle if you use the mobility it has, specially on Arcade Battles this should be a real gremlin when facing light armored vehicles, combining with the assisted lead indicator when targetting air vehicles, should be effective against most close flying targets, the dual fast-firing 23 mm cannon should have enough penetration to penetrate and destroy or at least disable most targets at point blank.
*That’s just a recommendation, you may be able to use a T-34-85 (STP) in a scenario where the T-44 could do the same, that depends on your performance.
-
Alternative line-up:

2S19M1 is a interesting vehicle, sluggish for the most part I won’t recommend this line-up, this is mostly focused on meme vehicles for ‘fun’. The highlighting feature on this vehicle is the autoloading mechanism. The vehicle itself is extremely situational but you might like its sniper style.
Like the previously mentioned BTR-ZD, the M53/59 Praga may fit a similar role as anti-air/anti-tank platform, on the frontal arc is extremely limited because of the truck cabin, however given Arcade Battles’ increased vehicles’ mobility, this should work just as same, can penetrate vehicles easier with the higher caliber 30 mm cannon combined with the HVAP-T belt.
This vehicle (PT-76B) is kinda tricky to play because of its large silhouette for a light vehicle, but given that is has a fast-loading cannon, combined with the dual-axis stabilizer should be able to put this tank to work either in long, close and on flanking operations, just beware of autocannons (from anti-airs and airplanes) and heavy machine guns (from other tanks) which is the most anti-PT-76B asset you may face when using this vehicle.
Almost a inverse of the 2S19M1, 2S3M should be able to give you a more fast-paced experience though with inferior 152 mm HE ammunition (slighly less explosive filler for almost a 1 kg of difference and ~200 m/s slower) however the platform itself moves quicker than 2S19M1s’, thus is more versatile to most scenarios.
There are no really a recipe, that depends on you. If you disliked a tank, consider another and so on. In my opinion USSR’s battle rating 6.0 range isn’t worth it.
Thanks man, this is really going to help. I like the first loadout as I lean towards medium and heavy tanks and I totally agree that the IS-2 (1943) has too long of a reload. Great advice and I’m hoping to use it this weekend!
