Grinding

Seems to me that these days people care more about grinding out a tech tree as quickly as possible using as few vehicles as possible and relying purely on 1 or 2 premiums. - Rather than actually playing/experiencing the vehicles they unlock.
Like completing a tech tree is the primary goal and everything else is secondary.

Why is this?
I feel like it is similar to earning 10 million irl and not spending it.

At the end of the day people can do what they like but I feel like it is kind of missing the point of the game.

Idk I find the same too its so sad, its like how everyone in props just heads on everyone until they die, like I want an actual dogfight

Cause everyone want the latest top toy,so they just skip everything to get that EFT/Rafale at the end.

Skipping the entire tech tree just to play a jet at top tier where your lifespan is 3 minutes and all they do is spam missiles doesnt really make sense to me.
I believe it is actually one of the reasons why high/top tier battles are so unengaging and the matches are populated by reckless players.
It is why people 1 death leave in ground, it is why high tier jet battles are like rank 1/2 arcade battles with missiles and why the match ends so quickly.

Each to their own but I feel like people regard having top tier as some kind of big accolade that means something or reflects their skills as a player. Whereas it really isn’t.

I also recognise some people dont care and only want those 1 or 2 jets or tanks at top tier, which is fine I guess - but I know this is not the primary reason for the majority.

It does have a trickle down effect.

True words. I don’t understand such behavior either!

probably the same reason why people play those korean mmo’s - but i can’t really tell why they do that

i noticed that behaviour a long time ago, and asked a random teammate in arb “why do you even grind for? just enjoy the game”, to which he simply replied “wdym, its the goal”

so uh… i have no idea honestly, it could be a perfectionism thing - like what achievement hunters do, or could just be that people enjoy the grind

i personally just play stuff i enjoy and end up with other vehicles to play - probably the intended way to progress tbh

i definitely agree with you on that - lots of people ODL because its a faster way to grind the tech tree compared to playing long games with a full lineup

Agreed, here is another sentiment - If you unlock everything or simply reach top tier but you have not played the majority of vehicles or spaded them - have you really “completed” the tech tree? I believe not.

It is kinda sad to see people racing to top tier at the expense of everything else just so they can compete in what is arguably the BR with the worst battles/experience. - Then likely quit after they get bored of not accomplishing much or only surviving for 3 minutes everytime OR getting slapped by better or unbalanced vehicles.

The illusion that speed grinding to top tier is the sole objective of the game is real . . . very real
The number of players that come into the chat and ask “How do I get a jet FAST?!?” is staggering.
Marketing, social media, content creators, the “FOMO generation” & HYPE . . . take your pick . .
This has become the way . . . .
The game’s original design of a long, slow progression to the higher tiers is still there, but generally is ignored entirely by newer players or just worked around for as fast a possible path to the top.
Even Gaijin aids in these “work arounds” with high tier premiums and foldering(I made up a word!!)

And as long as this is meta(which it has been for a few years now I guess) that is what we are going to see by and large . . . just how it is.
Seems like there are very few “completionists” anymore, and few have much desire for historical knowledge, and a lot don’t even seem to want to learn how to play the game really . . .
Account development(spading vehicles as you go, maxing crew skills in the various slots, learning map knowledge and even developing a “play style”) doesn’t seem to matter much or come into play anymore.
I won’t say the game is “devolving” or anything, just changing. Which is a familiar constant here with WT, and gaming in general I suppose. C’est la Vie.

These might be construed as “downsides”, but really just one guy’s observations and opinions on some things is all.

We are still running a very high online player count each day and I am sure Gaijin’s profits have been nice the past 5 years since the lockdown, so that is good for the future of the game that I for one, will continue to play and enjoy.

It is what it is . . . find the parts you enjoy and do that . . .

While the “grind” is a big chunk of the fun in playing games, I´d love to have the opportunity to test-drive each vehicle. Players could orient themselves a bit better and plan a more reasonable approach on the grind.

Tbf french rank V and VI are trash so would not hâte on them for that. But endless head-on with good planes are something that i don’t like (just like bombing in a good fighter it kinda miss the point of a fighter)

Seems to me that these days people care more about what other people do than just mind their own business.
