Great War event review

And that proves what? That vehicles can be busted when their damage models aren’t working as intended? Yes, the A7V was busted for the first couple days, but it got fixed, and now it’s just good.

…I’m a US main and mostly played the Entente throughout the event, and only really touched the Axis to get their vehicles and play around with the funni balloon.

Clearly peak Wheraboo right there.

Yeah they made changes, doesn’t mean that wasn’t still a problem.

Now people just play the Garford anyways.

Wow, so you’re an American main: someone who abused the meta. Go figure. Of course you wouldn’t see obvious bias

I’m not saying it wasn’t, but that isn’t a casus belli to continue complaining about an issue that has been fixed for a while now.

Hmm, yes, clearly it is abusing the meta to play the very faction that has been claimed by yourself to be inferior to the opposing faction to this very event.

I’m not saying it wasn’t, but that isn’t a casus belli to continue complaining about an issue that has been fixed for a while now.

My whole complaint was about the state if the event at the start, so it is.

Another complaint is not getting rewards for these matches without a flag.

It’s a half decent event, but AI infantry able to hold points is the stupidest thing Gaijin has done in April 2025, thusfar (they still have time to do worse, and considering their track record, they just might).

People who say the HE car is best are telling on themselves.

A7V and Chammondondndnd are the only ones that got me close to 5k in a single match, and regularly 3-4k in 1 life. The car is really bad against anyone with a semblance of awareness because you can revenge bomb them instantly if they somehow manage to kill you with the RNG HE, the bomb splash will kill them even landing 5m away with Entente smaller bombs.

Ah yes, everyone knows America is in the Entente (sarcasm). You really are an American: the Americans were not in the Triple Entente: that’s Russia, Great Britain and Ireland, and France.

So you admit to bringing up wholly unrelated information for no reason? If I were the ‘meta’ chaser you seem think I am, I would’ve been playing Germany for the event, not the Entente.

Overall I liked the event, I’ve got all stars except one for Entente (I’ll get it soon), at first it was very unbalanced, but later after a few fixes it became more or less ok. For Entente the main advantage is a presense of Bomber plane which is much easier to play compared to Zeppelin, while for Germany, especially first days, the main star has been A7V.
Infantry I haven’t really understood, it’s just presented and that’s all. Honestly I expected to see some features testing, would be cool if I could command those AI Infantry for example.
Also as a fan of Italian stuff, I’m disappointed that Italy as well as Austro-Hungary is not presented.
For example, there could be these Italian “Autocannone” guntrucks:

102/35 would work well to test “Pet” mechanics, as it doesn’t carry ammo, but there could be ammo carrier following your main vehicle. It could be later used for implementation of multiple chassis SAM systems.

Rewards are kinda idk, German pfp is very cool and I don’t think it’s equal to a simple title, imo Entente side could get some pfp as well.

Maybe I would like the event more if it was more oriented to PVE with machineguns equipped vehicles, wider representation of infantry, without speed buffs, to feel more like WW1 instead of just tanks looking WW1 and shooting at each other.

I feel like the infantry could have been more polished (Being very susceptible to HE being fired right next to them), and maybe a few more object’s could have been placed on the map to limit the sniping fest to let the mk5’s and such get a bit closer.

Maybe even a bigger map with more trench’s and infantry would be cool, letting the a7’s and mk5’s actually be trench clearers.

Also, the airship should have been a reward!

What you on sunshine??

That’s one of the best things they have done in freakin’ YEARS!!

Infantry occupies cap points once you take them, and the ones on the cap point have to be killed before you can uncap and retake it.

You can kill them with main guns (HE doesn’t seem to do any better than AP - both need a direct hit) or machine-guns.

I’ve seen some also advance completely across teh map in significant numbers from time to time, and they do engage and kill each other.

They can also destroy your vehicles with explosives/grenade bundles, and do damage to aircraft and the armoured cars - the machine guns can occasionally destroying them

Ah yes, because having to mow down a bunch of AI targets that can glitch out just to capture a base is peak gameplay. I wouldn’t mind it in Customs, but for pubs? That’s bad business. The only people who support it are spawn campers. Seriously, at least before you could sneak out and decap zones to prevent your team from losing. Now you have to spend more time trying to kill the bots just to decap it. It will literally destroy matches, making them completely one sided.

Well actually killing enemy infantry gives 5 SP and machine gun nests gives 30 SP, so there is a point to kill them.(if your desperate)

event broke the entire game adding massive amounts of dsync that made playing torturous. 0/10

Overall I think the event was great to play and an excellent proof of concept, I’m super excited for the prospect of WW1 and earlier interwar vehicles.

A big stand out for me was the infantry and effects, specifically being pestered by machine gunners and occasional artillery strikes. The Great War map felt alive in ways that our current maps never have and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Balance was quite reasonable given that it was all new vehicles in very restrictive scenario. Even though it felt like the A7V was over performing at the time, looking back now I think it was far more balanced than people are suggesting. I think the main balancing issue was the asymmetry of the map with the northern side having much more cover than the south. Personally I found the asymmetry to be a cool feature, as it meant that different sides of the map needed to adopt different strategies.

I’ve come away from the event hoping that it’s expanded on and we have infantry introduced to maps and earlier tanks introduced flesh out Rank 1, or even a ‘Rank 0’ where the battle rating of WW1 and Interwar vehicles in measure from 0.0 - 0.7 or even negative BRs such that the traditional reserve tanks stay at 1.0. I think war thunder is in need of some fresh gameplay elements and I see infantry as being a positive step towards some novel features.

Huh?? I’m saying how WW1 event worked - not how WT might incorporate infantry. And it was nothing like what you just wrote at all.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling…

That’s literally how it worked. I had invisible AI on the C point. Map didn’t say there was any bots there, all the trenches were clear, yet an invisible AI was still screaming.
