GNSS+SAL Weapons without a Targeting Pod

At the current moment in-time. GNSS only weapons such as the GBU-39 can be taken without a Targeting pod, but any weapon with SAL & GNSS require a Targetting pod to be taken, such as the Paveway IV. There isn’t any reason why these weapons couldnt be used in a pure GNSS mode in the same way that GBU-39 can be, if anything they would be more effective due to their larger warhead size. This change would increase loadout flexibility and allow these weapons to be run without taking their associated targeting pod. This is especially useful for any aircraft that has a built in FLIR and gives increased value to that asset.

Obviously, if you failed to take a laser-equipped targeting pod, the SAL on the weapon would be unusable.

So, the change I would propose.

  • Remove the hard requirement to take a Targeting pod with any weapon that also has GNSS.
  • Add a simple pop-up warning instead when you try to save a loadout with SAL+GNSS Weapons without a targeting pod.

The introduction of the aiming points for GNSS weapons is a perfect time to improve the usability of GNSS weapons with this additional change.

Would you like to see the ability to run any GNSS weapon without a targeting pod?

why not

along with this, there needs to be a fix for IR/TV+GNSS weapons, like the AGM-84H. Right now in game, if it loses visual LOS with the target it will just keep going forever wherever it was already going. however, it really should instead use the GNSS to keep guidance, and when close enough+regain LOS, lock whatever is closest to the GNSS point.

Same with iog as well, s soon as it loses lock with the target it’ll just drop out the air as if it just goes dead… REAL annoying when it comes to arms when they should be hitting the last known location of the target but instead either drop out the air (harm) or fly into the stratosphere (alarm).
