Get the Scimitar Mk.2 in the Scimitar Strike Event!

One question: what engine options does the Scimitar have? I know there’s the 190hp Jaguar engine, but what else is there? A 195hp Cummins and then another one with 235hp?

Been able to find that there were a handful of Close Recce (BGTI) Scimitars upgraded with the EM235 package. But probably the least common Scimitar variant out there. Most 235s including the Scimitar 2s, were Formation Recce vehicles.

Some other regs for the EM235s with BGTI were 05FD83, 08FD04, 06FD02, and 06FD65

190bhp Jaguar J60 petrol engine for the original Scimitars
195bhp Cummins BTA5.9 diesel engine for the Scimitar LEP - most British Scimitars were either modernised to this, or disposed of
235bhp up-rated Cummins BTA5.9 diesel engine for EM235 - a small minority of (Mk.1) LEP vehicles were upgraded for service in Afghanistan, plus new Scimitar Mk.2s were built to this standard

Scorpions for some export customers like Spain, Malaysia, and Chile had a 200bhp Perkins T6.3544 engine. But I don’t think any of those nations operated Scimitars alongside their Scorpions. It was trialled by the MoD against the Cummins engine though, and so was some model of Steyr-Puch TCA engine

I stand corrected!
Hopefully we’ll see both the BGTI and E/M-SPIRE EM235s (More Scimmie = More Better :3)

I just want more British made vehicles in general. plenty they can still add. The fact we still don’t have Covenanter is wild to me, and I look forward to getting Abbot some day. There’s also Centaur and Bishop that could come, as well as some more armoured car variants, and even some more Churchill variants, including another version of the AVRE (FV3903 and Cast turret).

image

IIRC essentially the same gun mounted to the Centurion AVRE in game with both early and late variants of said gun.

But for the sake of staying on topic, yeah i’d love to see more Scimitar variants. Even a Scorpion or Scorpion 90 now the whole CVRT family are making their way in.

its still insane to me that we don’t have the Scorpion at all, Let alone the 90mm variant.

especially considering the 90mm variant had a APFSDS round.

Well, my report went in, and gaijin mod claims that the scimitar 2 didnt have spall liners.

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/Os7Qv8UqJdwN

“These are not spall liners, but noise-absorbing mats, similar to those used on the Chieftain and Challenger tanks.”

So I guess all the other CVRTs had them, but the 1 specifically designed to help withstand IED and blast shrapnel damage doesnt.

Also, maybe, it does both? But with it being locked, cant reply, grand.

anything to not give british tanks spawl liners. in before they say the same is the case for warrior.

Gaijin be like: Oh yeah this massive array of Kevlar padding coating the ENTIRE INSIDE of British MBTs is just for sound deadening

Of course, because everyone knows that while soundproofing layers are generally in the engine room, surrounding its walls, in the fighting compartment and turret it’s inside so the crew doesn’t overhear private conversations or the annoying sound of birds. We all know that in war you need to be as quiet as possible, and it’s always better not to hear when you’re being shot at than to have a layer protecting you from shrapnel.

Seriously though, do these people actually understand any of this? Or are they just bots with a few commands?

Okay, so after many many games with this vehicle; I can confidently say that the outrage about its BR is completely justified… The best game I got was five vehicles destroyed, however that was in a game where the enemy team was one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

While playing it I noticed a few issues; primarily that scouting with binoculars is broken right now, and has been bug reported making it a fairly useless scouting vehicle as you cant scout with binoculars in a lot of scenarios. That and, despite it being a rank VI vehicle, it doesn’t have access to a scout drone. There’s also an issue with it turning.

For some reason, when you are on even a slight incline (I’m talking 15 degrees or possibly less), holding W and A or D to turn, will make the vehicle struggle massively. It can neutral steer fine, however trying to do a moving steer from a stop just stalls it out essentially.

While the vehicle is heavier than the regular scimitar, it is MUCH slower, mainly because of the added cage armour that is currently (i know its getting a modification to remove it) not able to be removed. That combined with the fact the cage armour literally does nothing to protect you, it makes it even harder to see why the BR of it is so high.

The gun has no commander override either, meaning you can not use the commander sight to aim the gun and instead you have to use the gunsight which has ALOT of zoom, which is expected of a scouting vehicle.

The engine sound is loud I believe, specially considering its size. I know gaijin have used engine sound to balance vehicles in the past, but you can hear this thing from a good distance away and because of its height, you cant really hide it.

Many things you will fight, will be heavies or weird soviet tanks that are a volumetric nightmare. Maus, T-10M, Obj.279, Obj. 775 etc. meaning that a lot of the time, you cant take the fights you are forced into, and you dont have the manuverability to get to the correct position to, or in the case of the Maus, there’s literally nothing you can do to it.

The summary is that, I genuinely cant understand why this vehicle is at 8.3 and the standard Scimitar is at 7.7 despite it being worse in a lot of ways, and only better in one. The thermals. This Scimitar is a sidegrade at best, and to say its comparable to Warrior enough to be the same BR is laughable. This thing should be at either 7.7 with the other Scimitar or at most, at 8.0. Even then, It would benefit from having its APFSDS as mentioned previously in this topic. That APFSDS round would help this vehicle, specially if it goes to 8.0 and it would help the Warrior at its current BR as well without making any drastic changes.

Yes I know, skill issue etc etc, I’ll get the comments out of the way now as I know I’m not a top league player and I am not amazing at the game, but I just wanted to give a genuine review after the first day of having access to it and trying to grind out the modifications.

I expected that. It’s also true that the lack of a single decent map in the game makes this tank even harder to use. Another issue is the (as always) numerous bugs that compromise its performance: its useless cage armor, nonexistent fragmentation protection, composite armor that offers no protection, suspension with extreme and disproportionate body roll, flat-level speed restricted to 50 km/h, and more flaws than I’m sure there are. As you say, the APDS-FS would help a lot, but it will still suffer from its low rate of fire and facing heavily armored tanks.

I think the most efficient strategy would be to find long-range positions, and with good cover, wait to find other IFVs and destroy them at the greatest possible range, forgetting about MTBs unless you have them in a position where you’re sure to destroy them.

I’m going slightly off-topic. I think it’s rubbish that you can destroy an enemy’s engine and they can continue advancing for a good distance without any problems. I don’t know if it’s realistic, but I think destroying the engine wouldn’t lock the transmission if it’s in gear? I ask because this will also affect the Scimitar, since if you shoot the engine of an enemy MTB, it can turn around and face you, saving itself from being killed.

I don’t understand how Gaijin looked at the spawl liner on the inside of this vehicle; a vehicle upgraded specifically to survive/mitigate IED blasts and decided “that’s not spawl liner, that’s sound dampening” - it’s both. The brochures of the vehicle literally say that its been upgraded to protect the crew and provide added ballistic protection; but they say the spawl liner is only sound dampening… So that’s something its unlikely to see in the near future…

I’m disappointed with this thing, and I feel that Gaijin’s treatment of it is the key reason as to why.

At least if an IED goes off near the vehicle, the crew’s hearing will be intact. Cant say so much about everything else.

Don’t expect anything from these devs. They’re pretty average game developers, but with an insatiable desire to make money. They simply know nothing about military vehicles, and they just throw in whatever comes to mind at the moment to avoid the hassle of research. This way, they get the players to do the research and fix the problems for them, saving them a good amount of money.

The funny thing is, the players do the work for them, and they still leave reports accepted for years without bothering to fix them. Maybe we’ll have to spend €300 a month to see if that changes their minds, haha.

Well I got it. It’s my 2nd event vehicle on the game. I haven’t played with it yet.

Having played 3x more games than you, I completely agree.

I’ve had two matches where the map was big enough to make the thermals & LRF useful. This is not the War Thunder of 7 years ago where bigger maps were common so these mods could make a massive difference for the RARDEN; 95% of your games will be on tiny 3-lane sh!tboxes where these modifications don’t make any difference. Even when you get that rare map it’s still a RARDEN - Abysmal ROF, mediocre accuracy and non-existent damage.

The trade off for these largely useless modifications is a massive size increase and mobility nerf. You go from comfortably hiding behind the Test Drive IT-1 to towering over it, and in-game you really do feel that inability to hide in all the spots the “Mk.1” can. Being easier to see and hit wouldn’t be an issue if you had better armour, but you don’t. The only real improvement is the turret can’t be penned by 14.5 at point-blank anymore - because the “”“optic”“” door is closed.

The mobility gap isn’t as bad spaded v stock but you definitely feel it. A casual 17s 0-60kph becomes 33s with the speed crawling up after 50kp/h. The turret rotation loses 4.5°/s because of the useless cage and the neutral steer suffers slightly too.

Like you said it’s a sidegrade that belongs at 7.7, even if all the bugs get fixed. A bigger, slower target with better long-range accuracy. I genuinely cannot imagine what they were smoking when they put it to 8.3 before release.

so far this vehicle is raw sewage in performance. even with FSDS its not gonna handle 8.3

It also doesnt help the turret is 5 degrees/s SLOWER then the fox and Scimi which already wasnt amazing.

I also do not get why even on concrete it cant get over 50kmh… Is it bugged?
