Get the F-5A(G) in the Freedom Fighter Event!

No idea. The only cockpit photos of the single seater show no MFD or display of any kind. Can’t find the rear seat of the tandem cockpit, so not sure it can either.

Tbf the missile searches by itself so its not unbelievable to assume F5’s would launch them and allow the missile to find its target. Though i am curious as to how gaijin will implement it.

The use of Penguins on F-5s are mostly classified still. I dont think they ever were intended to launch Penguins in a real attack. The tactic was to use the F-16s to launch Penguins, while F-5s were armed with Samovar and chaff pods to confuse the ships. RNoAF even made a deal with the Canadian Air Force that they would protect the RNoAF from air threats during these attacks.

There are several sources listing various upgrades for the TIGER-PAWS programme, and i think some of these upgrades were removed before the aircrafts were put on display. The information around the programme is, to my understanding, still classified.

3x F-5A(G)'s were kept for quite a while afterwards to be used in the development of Kongsberg Defence’s new NSM - Naval Strike Missile, don’t think it ever tested that missile, but it would be cool. There are images of this development, but they are classified i am being told

Here is however, and image published wich shows the search head of the missile mounted on the wing on one of these 3 planes, fpr those interested

After further research, if i understand the wordings right, the plane actually test fired the NSM!

Penguin isn’t like Maverick and other Imaging Infra-Red missiles, so doesn’t use an imaging display in the cockpit to establish a lock before launch. It’s described as Pseudo-IIR and only uses the infrared seeker for autonomous terminal guidance.
Launching the missile towards a target position is done with the kind of nav/attack and radar ranging and azimuth systems used for conventional bombing - CCRP etc.

@Til_Dovre_Faller after speaking to gszabi, its misisng JATO and only has the 60 internal CM’s, so it’ll need to be bug reported.

yes, i am gathering information :D found some sources and images of various stuff

out of a picture i saw, i think the cockpit also misses the JATO igniter

Yeah so its missing correct pilot model, JATO, CM pods for the most part

Could be structural stuff as well, hard to find information about, as something with the arrestor hook/mounting there on the hull was reinforced (probably no impact), the wings received plates with increased thickness (increased tructural stability, slightly better protection)

also someone told me the Drag Chute were apparently specially designed (cant find out how or why tough)

Yeah i think gaijin will probably make it a basic F5A and ignore anything like JATO and such, this will be a one off gimmick vehicle unfortunately.

I don’t know, guess well see :D

Here is the only video i have found of the JATO, 1989

The red button in the yellow circle should be the ignitor/button for it

If they don’t give me my JATO I will be very mad.

Same, considering the 9L/I made it pretty unique, I want everything else that can make it unique

It’s just frustrating as someone who know it wouldn’t have the AIM-9L/I, because it gave people the wrong expectation for it. It has a lot of unique features trust me, but they have forgotten some. That’s why me and Dovre are here to try to inform.

What vexs me is how rushed these vehicles are, its like gaijin doesn’t have enough time to get these things fixed before they announce the.

Seen in the middle

From my understanding these fired sharp ammo, as seen in this sheet
