The radar on the gripen sucks ass, and number of missiles definitely matters in a 16v16 game or when trying to loiter in sim.
I mean its a blue vixen its pretty solid, i dont really have a problem with it. More narrow vertical angles but it has a more wide horizontal angles than the AN/APG-68(V)7 Imo its a fair trade off but i guess you could say its worse than AN/APG-66 somehow. Also the Gripen is a light multirole fighter so 6 pylons is fine, sure you could go for more missiles but meh. Guess i just don’t really care. 6 missiles is fine with me.
It really struggles to find targets. Like someone can be right infront of you and and it doesn’t see it at all. I don’t have that problem with my other planes and it really sucks when you try to use it for iff.
I dont really know what to say man, honestly you seem to be looking at the in game version and then thinking that the real life version is bad because in game you think its bad. Its a game doesnt really translate well to irl imo. Besides its probably just a server problem or just bad luck for you when it comes to your radar. Id ask @Morvran he has a lot of experience with it.
If the eurofighter is added now it’ll be added either like the gripen, with a shit radar, or like the su27, as a boat. Either would suck.
“When” the Eurofighter is added it will probably get its flight model nerfed as i can imagine it being added in broken state. The problem is gaijin not knowing how to properly fix the model for the gripen currently. Theyve done another 1° nerf to turning instead of fixing the SEP which personally i dont care. The f16A was a better turn fighter before in most cases, not always maybe 40% against skilled and i mean skilled pilots. Now its more like 60%, ive had a really easy time taking them out. Now when the Eurofighter arrives i expect people to cry and complain about its flight performance (if its introduced the same way the gripen was.) Do i think it will be bad, eh hard to say. I dont really think so but gaijin loves to prove me wrong lol. Regardless ill be looking forward to it and the shenanigans of who gets the best Eurofighter.
Gripen Currently has the Blue Vixen Radar as a placeholder. I’ve been having quite a bit of success with it in the Sea Harrier and no issues with it finding targets. The only tricky thing is the slow track rate.
IRL, Blue Vixen was one of the best radars of its era. In-game I think its underperforming a bit. A few mechanics that Gaijin won’t/can’t model yet due to game limitations.
Limited number of missiles for the Gripen or the FA2 is certainly a mitigating factor, but its also not miles behind either. Though wouldnt say no to the 10 to 12 missiles the Typhoon will bring, no more compromising between IR or BVR Missile
Some of the reports for the Blue Vixen currently: Channels, Range, ACM modes
Tranche 1 has a PD radar with 8 [to my knowledge] AAMs. AIM-120 and 9M.
Don’t worry, they’ll jump through hoops and bend over backwards to do it. It’s real gymnastics on German mains when it comes to what they do and don’t deserve and what everyone else do and don’t deserve cuz it’s “not the same” as their case.
Gripen E fixes that by moving to 10 missiles which isnt bad but again i dont really mind 6 missiles only.
ECR90 / Captor-M. Same radar used until the Captor-E (AESA) radar that is being recently added. Its an upgraded Blue Vixen radar and supposedly performs nearly as well as an AESA radar. Will likely outperform the early-AESA radars of the Rafale and similar.
People said the same about F-15’s PD radar.
Mechanical radars are only so powerful at the end of the day.
Yeah, you just have to be smart. Not played the Gripen since the update. been focusing on spading the FA2, but its ahrd work. Especially in Sim in such an incomplete state. Already a dozen+ bug reports for it. Also the palceholder HUD renders it almost unplayable.
if it takes them 9 months to fix. We may have the Typhoon before we get an actually playable FA2
Eh only took them 5 months to add the gripen C to sweden and it still isnt on par for ground rb as any of the other gripens. Big sad.
Yeah… Unless its US or USSR. Its a low priority for Gaijin unfortunately .
Not necessarily, Italy and France have been doing very well.
…really? The highest GER aircraft you played is BR4.0, so what would you know about that?
It’s been going on for 12+ years.
I’m sure it was good, but it seems pretty comparable to the an/apg 65 for the most part
That’s a bit of a stretch, probably marketing.
Except for the Rafale one you are probably right about that, the French were flexing a 200km range for the upgraded version, and it’s probably against a target more than 1m^2
In an alternative reality.
